You wanna change the world? Go to your local trailer park and give a 90 pound weakling a "scholarship" to attend. Not many 90 pound weaklings on "scholarship" on campus campus, are there?
Can't respond for Teurlings or STM, but when my kids were at Vermilion Catholic, well over half of all reduced tuition or scholarship kids were either not athletes at all, or were very marginal athletes.

The only reason that many were athletes is because the school actively encouraged students to be involved in athletics; something like 70% of the student body participated in at least one sport.

It will happen. We just have to get rid of the LHSAA first.

I don't see it happening. The schools that voted for the split will never join up with the new orginization.

The teams that voted for split are the problem. I am happy this is happening.

I used to want everyone in the same league. Not any more. Let the publics reap what they have sown. I look forward to the day when LHSAA can no longer use private school fan bases as their personal cash cow.

I also look forward to the day when the publics in Acadiana learn what recruiting really is, once STM, Teurlings, CHSNI, Notre Dame, OCHS, VC and others are no longer fettered by LHSAA regulations.

I am tired of the private schools being the whipping boy.

Representative Kirk Talbot, (R) River Ridge, is the author of Louisiana House bill 863.

The bill is aimed squarely at the schools who voted for additional playoff splits in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association in baseball, basketball, and softball.

It reads: “A public school or nonpublic school approved by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education that receives state funds shall not be a member of any interscholastic extracurricular athletic association or organization that subdivides schools into select admission and non-select admission schools for athletic playoff competitions.”
