It amazes me how two guys can get a huge gig with a P5 school making a LOT more money and people have to suggest it's because we had a bad season.

Do you folks stay up all night thinking about ____ like that??

Congratulations to Rusty and Jay. They got new jobs because we got better while they were here.
    Bingo, and thank you.

I've been critical of the current advancement of our athletics (not moving as fast, or aggressively, as I would like) and of Martin Hall in regards to our conference affiliation "comfort" and the complete boondoggle the whole Louisiana Ragin Cajuns thing has been.

Let's look at this. Ragin Cajun football had seemingly been a coach's graveyard, with the exception of Brent Pry, who even he had to rebuild his cred a bit after he was fired from his DC job at UL. Now we've had two coaches, one a coordinator for an entire side of the ball, land P5 gigs, HUGE promotions and opportunities moving up from a Sunbelt program, OUR Sunbelt program.

Yet, some here want to claim that this is simply coaches jumping a sinking ship?? A sinking ship was the football program after the Baldwin years. Upon Bustle's last season, our football program appeared to be taking on water as well.

Yes, 2015 was a ____ty football season. Yes, I am concerned that we can get blown out by LA Tech two seasons in a row, one of those being a bowl season. However, this tide has taken a turn from 2010, and it's been for the better. The two recent career climbs by Coaches Johnson and Whitt prove that.

Here's hoping we've just hit a bump in the road.

Sooner than later our fans had better get used to coaches moving on. It doesn't always signal impending doom. Nor does it signal that anyone done anything wrong at UL. Maybe he just wanted to move on to another school a bigger challenge.

The sooner the fans decide to overcome little things like this the sooner we will progress as a program.

I would wager that if they read this board they are thinking the same thing.

Well I certain understand the trepidation. Especially for the older fans that have been put through the ringer.

But even I (yes, the ever pessimistic conspiracy theorist) can see that these departures are nothing more than bigger opportunities presenting themselves. Jay and Rusty were assessts and some other smart guys finally figured that out.

It comes with the territory. At our level, when we succeed, we'll have turnover.

Jay, in all fairness... only one person asked the "question" about the bad season being involved... and one considered if the sanctions had something to do with it. "The forum" very loudly countered with your arguments and more. The "you folks" needs to be taken back.

I find it funny how 25 people can chime in on a subject... 2 or 3 people make negative (and not even the same) comments... and "the forum" and "you people" are admonished as a single entity for the posts of the few.

I've asked others to address the people that they're referring to directly... to limit this "the forum" and "you people on Ragin Pagin" kind of generalizations. Afterall... it won't be long that everyone on RP will be accused of public thong flaunting!

The whole board? Go back and read this thread. 95% plus of the posters are in agreement with them getting promoted because they earned it.

    Yeah, let me clarify.

One said it was because we had a bad season (on a half dozen different posts3). Two because we don't pay enough and it's Jim Harris' fault. One suggested there's more to this than a move up and one suggested they left because of impending sanctions.

At any rate there's more than one who thinks this is more than it really is. Next time I'll be more specific.

That was Hud's call, not Whitt's. And that change started last year. Terrance Broadway went to Hud on behalf of the team and said they didn't need the extreme S&C that Whitt had been putting on.

I was not specifically talking ONLY about this thread. Jay mentions Coach Johnson moving onto in his post. Now if you want to go back to that ____ poor of an excuse of a pity party please do or the MANY MANY my feeling are hurt threads then be my guess. I would rather focus on the upcoming year.

This boards persona is that of a cynical old man that is constantly looking over his shoulder. That is no way to move a program forward.

Some of you may recognize this "You can't go back and make a new beginning but you can start today and make a new ending." For various personal reasons this is my mantra.

I've heard it and it's a great mantra. And I know that this forum can explode with negativity. I do see a pretty fair balance of opinion most of the time. I'm one of the people that does enjoy talking about what needs to be fixed (from my perspective) more than I talk about what's right. I'll admit that. But I think my criticisms are about making a new ending. At least that's my objective.

I know the JJ thread had some people assuming something must have gone wrong. But for the most part, the majority of contributors recognized it as a promotion and opportunity to be nearer his origins.

True... there are probably a lot of "cynical old men" in the mix. Perhaps the 3 decades of being in the athletic fan dungeon had a negative effect. You cannot go back and make fans different (to borrow from your mantra). I'd suggest you couple your mantra with a little forgiveness of the cynical old man fan. I watched many of them be torchured by this institution. People that don't post on here just gave up or never cared.
