Thread: Rusty Whitt to Texas Tech

  1. Default Re: Rusty Whitt to Texas Tech

I don't think UL will be losing anything over this past year.

Rusty Whitt put his mountain climbing methods on lockdown this past season. I don't know if it was because the NCAA was snooping around, but there was definitely a noticeable change of pace to conditioning.

Perhaps the IPC insulated everything, making the training less noticeable to fans and reporters. I don't really know.

I know it's a big move from the SBC to the Big12.....but Whitt's moving might be his lack of control of what he wanted to do this pass season and he was over ridden because of the thought of injuries.

He's a loss to us... but there's many positives. He raised the bar for S&C at UL (no pun intended). We have great facilities. He essentially got promoted in his profession. That says good things about him and us. And his efforts don't vanish with him leaving. S&C coaches can easily leave the system they helped build and it be maintained or improved upon.

Best of everything to Rusty Whitt. For a very long time, every time Rusty gets mentioned in all college circles, we will too. And it will add to the positives.

Rusty came in with only the hope of better facilities. We are in good shape IMO (no pun intended).

Agreed, that our APC has to be very attractive to any good strength coach out there.

My suggestion is to put all the players on the track team to make them faster and get a strength coach that specializes in developing and making linemen stronger.

I would imagine that if they are qualified then they would at least be in the running.

1- Rusty Whitt deserves much credit for the first 4 years' success. Whitt knows what it takes to get into prime conditioning. I don't think pudgy players is his call.

2- He moved on because he was offered a Big 12 gig. That's it. A big move up for him.

Interesting that the two, IMO, best assistant coaches in their positions chose to leave after a disastrous season instead of the four successful ones. Coincidence, I think not.

I'm fully aware Whitt is a different coach, but he's here about football.

Yes good luck to both Whitt and Johnson.

Do you think honestly think that if Minnesota offered Jay Johnson the position after last season that he would not have taken it?? Obviously we will never know, but it's not like these guys aren't leaving for good reasons.

I'm thinking that both had their agents selling them to the collective FBS.
