  1. UL Basketball Marlin looking for leadership in tough times

When things do not go well on the road, coach Bob Marlin simply wants his Ragin' Cajuns to show some leadership.

    A mirror, perhaps?

Performance is a reflection of leadership. Perhaps Marlin needs to reconsider his methods.

It's kinda like reliving this past football season.

I don't fault the coach for the schedule because of the budget constraints. But why can't we recruit or play or shoot better than this? Do we have an unrealistically low recruiting budget, or are other SBC schools just doing a better job? Something is amiss...

As Cajun T posted, he is the only coach in our Atheltic program who doesn't go out and raise independent monies. We can't afford better games? BS. Our president withholds millions AND our basketball coach won't go find the money. It's not that we can't get a better schedule, we just won't.

"Fundraising required" should be on the job application.

I think there's a difference between the way things are and the way it is.

Farmer used to say coaches shouldn't have to do this but I suppose other coaches want things bad enough to go get it. If I were a coach I wouldn't want to fundraise either. But there's an unwritten rule that you have to do so.

I don't really understand why the basketball isn't doing better, and if the team has weaknesses, why we don't have better teams.

It's a shame because men's basketball is what initially put us on the map. We just can't gain any traction. Or we have a promising end to a season and can't parlay that to a good start next season.

Other than Long, other teams we have played on the road this year are more talented than we are. It is that simple. Recruiting must improve significantly for the program to progress.
