Reading Hud's comments on hiring a new OC it comes over like he will hire someone that will follow his lead and do what he want's as for as the Offensive play. So why pay an OC 3-4K a year to stand on the side line to relay the plays that the HC want to call.....When you hire someone for a position in any leading role, football or corporations you give them the lead for what they were hire for.
Quote, “I feel like I know what our players can do, and I know what I would like to do,” he said. “We’re going to be different than we have been in some ways. I’m excited to sort of see what each one of the candidates that I narrow it down to can bring to the table and to see what would be the best direction for us to go in as a program.”

This part of the quote.
Hud is going to hire the guy that most closely mimics his offensive philosophy and comes across as a loyal assistant. Hud is too demonstrative for us to expect another strong willed football mind to invade our program and trump Hud. He will let a DC experiment. If we're going to experiment with our offense going forward, as Hud implies, I absolutely guarantee you that the lead scientist will be Hud. Everyone else will be washing the beakers and lab coats.
He is the head coach; shouldn't he be doing this?
Whether we like it or not... yes. He is the HC with an offensive background. Hud grabbed this program by the short ones and drug us over the line. This is his program. And it's certainly his offense. I want him to be smarter about player utilization and play calling from our existing play book. I don't want a revamp. I hope his new OC works well helping Hud get what he wants done. That's our best hope. I also hope he has extensive QB/WR position coaching skills, that regardless of what Hud commands be done, the guy can help develop the players in learning the little details.
I may be on Hud's butt for some coaching brain lock at times. But this is his program to run, and he definitely needs an OC that works in sync with him. Whatever we're going to get out of Hud going forward will require all of the coaches, on offense, being on the same page with Hud.
