I'm not a fan of ulm going to FCS, I dont like losing to FCS schools. They can hire a high school assistant as their head coach and it will still take a comeback from hell for us to beat them.
ULM and ULL are on the same level. You guys should really lay off them, it could easily be you next.
Some ULM fans are talking about dropping back down to FCS which might be the best thing for them to do. They have a budget under $10M that is smaller than many FCS schools and that includes almost $3M from having to play 3 P5 schools, otherwise their budget is around $7M. While they would lose the nearly $3M in P5 revenue, ULM would save a lot of money on scholarships and travel. The salaries they pay are slightly higher than FCS but grossly under BCS, so they could save money there by paying even less. ULM could strive to once again become a national power at the FCS level, something they will never do as a BCS school, and they could regain their fan base.
Just because we struggled a couple of times doesn't mean we would we lose to them as an FCS school. If they did drop down, we would probably only play them once every 4-5 years as we play a round robin of Southern, Nichols, NW State, McNeese State and ULM.
ULM President Bruno apparently will not commit to greater funding for athletics, which is why all of these coaches are declining. It is time for Bruno to face reality and pull the plug on BCS football and ULM rejoining the Southland Conference.
According to all reports right now Viator is still in play. If he doesn't take it I'd assume it would be Hopson from Alcorn State.
