I had the opportunity to see CHS vs Calvary Baptist in the dome last year in a game that was decided by just a few points. CHS had one D1 player and CB had about 7-9 on the field at all times. On paper and just looking at the size and physical match ups CHS should have been blown out. It looked like the equivalent of a good P5 vs a G5. The wing T version that the coaches at CHS runs is very deceptive, you never know where the ball is at during a play and they do it with O linemen that are usually much smaller than the guy across the ball from them, much like the military academies. La is full of athletes to run such a system. I would love to see us put in an offense that defenses will only see once a year and have to change every thing the do in order to have success.
2011 we got Dexter Aucoin...per 247sports he was #37. He transferred out if I remember correctly. We also got #50...Daryl Surgent. This was Hud's first class. Evan Tatford was ranked #43 but originally committed to Tulane.
2012 none. Jacoby Briscoe was #23 but originally committed to Miami. Trey Granier was ranked #20 but originally committed to LSU. Otha Peters was ranked #10 but originally committed to Arkansas.
2013 Elijah McGuire was ranked #16. Carlton Perkins was ranked #48...never played a down. Jeryl Brazil was ranked #5 but originally committed to LSU.
2014 Anthony Jones was ranked #25, I think he transferred out last year.
2015 Dion Ray was ranked #30.
That's it.
Louisiana is loaded with NFL lineman, NFL hall of famers. Louisiana is loaded at almost every position in the NFL. Having said that, there has to be a corresponding number of high quality G5 linemen, and other positions not just P5. We should be working to be the best G5 prospect school, and supplement with kids from Tx, Ms, and Bama. These states also are loaded and within two hundred and fifty miles of UL.
We have a huge hurdle to overcome on this, coaches especially local coaches think we should be taking FCS players and get a little ____ed at us for not doing so. We have a double standard there.
No doubt if Hud has an A athlete from Lafayette or an A athlete from Texas take the local all other things being equal. Asking a local to use a tops is OK for a kid you really do not consider ready to play FBS, but with potential down the road. I was surprised to hear he did this to lots of kids who signed to other FBS schools.
