That's all well and good...but transfers have a very low success rate.

By the time they get in...their development is already stunted. Look at Otha Peters at the beginning of the year. He looked lost. At the end of the season...one of our best linebackers. Now let's put him in the system 2 years ago, he would be an unstoppable force.

They kill us in the river parishes and in NOLA...but we can't even bring in kids from Acadiana:

2016 Class: Kevin Moore-Acadiana Committed to Texas Tech
2015 Class: Jason Pellerin-Catholic High of New Iberia Committed to Ole Miss
Jalen Bates-Kaplan Committed to Arizona State
2014 Class: Tae Thibodeaux Westgate Committed to Louisville
2013 Class: Josh Boutte Westgate Committed to LSU
Deondre Skinner Patterson Committed to Houston
2012 Class: Lorenzo Phillips Patterson Committed to LSU
    Jacoby Briscoe Committed to Miami

We were in on every single one of these kids. I realize the ones who went to LSU were going to go there regardless. How can we expect to build a fence around the state...when we can't even get any recruits in our own backyard?
Claude George from Acadiana went juco and then Texas A&M
Daniel Lewis from New Iberia went to Hawaii.
Oshea Dugas from Northside went to Tech

Thats a few who were in the Lafayette area that could have helped us.

QB Lindsey Scott from Zachery is a kid I'm very disappointed the Cajuns aren't on in this years class.

Tulane is Tulane. They will always get their guys. Tech, didn't get to where they are with in-state recruiting overnight. It was decades of beating P5 programs and dominating us in football. They built a brand.

It will take several more years of winning along with some P5 victories and victories over Tech to cut into their recruiting edge they have. The APC will not do it. Beating scrubs and going to the NOLA Bowl will not do it.

This is a big reason I favor giving up the 6th home game every other year in favor of a second P5 game every year. You can't beat them if you don't play them. Ohio does nothing for us. Absolutely nothing.

And these kids have coaches...and those coaches will coach more kids the following year. I don't see us having any relationship with these local coaches who could be so inclined...once LSU has had their pick of the litter...to at least make the ____ing suggestion that instead of moving away to go play at some big school...they will just be recruiting ranking stuffers and eventually ride the pine until they give up and transfer home. I believe most of that is ego also. What coach wants to have his kids stay home and not go to a P5 school? I get that. But they are also doing these kids a huge disservice.

Scott's father former Saint Lindsey Scott made it very clear that his kid was going to play at a P5 program, he had connections and wasn't interested. Once Claude George went to Juco, he wasn't coming back. Oshea Dugas in my opinion was their worst decision and the best recruit out of this area they had a legitimate shot at signing. Louisiana has been a mixed bag for Hudspeth and certainly disappointing at times. But when it comes to locals, can anyone name one athlete that is blowing up in college right now that UL had a legitimate chance of signing? There may be one or two, but I can't find one right now. But Dugas, will be a all conference lineman soon.

You must of forgotten what he inherited! Hud is not getting the same treatment after his down year.

It matters not if they blew up or not...as our attrition level is still way too high. We aren't getting the local players, we aren't getting connections with local high school coaches. Whether guys like Deondre Skinner make it to campus is a moot point. Perception is the name of the game here.

Attrition and signing local products are two entirely different discussions Hawk, lets be clear on that. Skinner originally signed with Houston but his scholarship was revoked within days of signing after he was arrested for having sex with an underage female. He called Hudspeth to come to UL, but they decided they did not want to get involved with him afterwards. He ended up signing with Tulane and never enrolled. He later enrolled a McNeese, where he has been marginal at best. I don't see us missing much in his case.

We got a lot of Texas and Mississippi recruits on this team not doing great as well. IMO any time you've got comparable recruits take the local, and expand the circle.

Of course taking a local kid is a mixed bag. Harder to deal with if he's a football or citizen mistake.

From what I have been told Claude wanted to be here but the offer never came so he went juco. Dugas and Daniel Lewis are my biggest gripes locally.

With Scott I can understand that he had his sites on P5 but I don't understand taking a commitment from a prospect like Arceneaux. We have discussed this before and I know he has a lot of growth potential but I see a lot of options in Louisiana and sour rounding states who fit what we do and are a lot better prospect. I could be off on that and he does great but I just don't see it.

Not necessarily. We could have signed Deondre Skinner...or Deshaun McNeal. Neither would have played a down for us. One helps us with local pipelines...one doesn't. Just because we didn't miss anything...does not mean we didn't have anything to gain from it.
