I think just about everything has been explained.
To have a chance in the NCAA (e.g. decent seeding) you play people pre-conference who won't come to the Cajundome in hopes of winning.
The team can't schedule games most of the time for practice, pre-conference, and postseason at the Cajundome.
There isn't enough money to buy out of conference games the fans want to see.
That locks us in an annual rut of slow start, and decent finish.
Unless we can give a coach the chance of working out of that rut, things might be exceptional every once in a while, but not as a rule. That's why a coach keeps his job. The next one may give you a temporary spike but it won't last. Unless the money and availability of Dome Sweet Dome improves.
We're also in the Sunnyside Up Conference, which eats at me like cooties oozing out of an infected wound.
I've given until it hurts, which means we need to sell more people on the vision.
That's why, as best as I've been able to piece together, is why things more or less stay the same.
Hopefully it will be better than a decent finish this season. As far as the conference goes, yes the teams we have beaten lately are not the best in the league. However we will be playing much better competition in the upcoming games and the top teams in the league (other than the Cajuns) did pretty well in non-conference this year. I believe the problems we had in the early going were somewhat due to the Bryce Washington injury. He is healthy now and that is one reason for the improvement. We also lead this league in attendance. I recognize that is somewhat due to the league itself. However, I bet we would also be well into the top half of CUSA attendance most years with what we are drawing now. Not all things are negative. Cali did do a decent job of explaining the situation the program is in.
Good Lord man.
Honest to God I was about to bump your old thread to try and convince you to buy some tickets because I don't want to see a Cajuns fan suffer through a rough period and not get to experience the good times. But now I'm convinced you are more interested in being miserable. To each his own man. By all means stay home tomorrow and sulk. The rest of us are going to show up and enjoy one hell of a conference basketball game against a solid opponent.
That solid opponent is missing a key cog. Not so sure how solid they are now?
Old Alum IMO is not sulking, or wallowing in anything. He is just evaluating who we are getting all giddy about. So we get a crippled UTA today, a pretty good ULM Tuesday. A loss to ULMOST would not be a good thing.
Clearly UL is beating bad teams in a manner that says we are better than them by a lot. I expect a double digit win today, and a nail biter Tuesday. Recognizing the relative value of our wins isn't keeping me from seeing one of the best players in UL, and SBC history. And if he was not here, I would cheer for the rest. It does not mean I'm buying BigFish Marin, even though I hope he goes on a hundred game win streak.
Batch if we lose. Batch if we win. Batch if we win but the other team isn't good. Batch if we win but not by enough. F, there are some unhappy people in the world and they seem to be intent on staying unhappy, no matter what.
The schedule is what it is, especially the uncontrollable part, the Sun Belt.
All UL can do is play the schedule. To complain in the midst of a 5-game winning streak undermines whatever argument OldAlum had.
I'm sure, that he is sure, he will have a better opportunities to make his point later in the season. Why not wait till then.
"You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done"
Personally I'm enjoying this ride.
The wise guys have UL -6.0 for today's game. I think UTA is a whole lot better than you think they are. As we've seen here, it takes more than one great player to make a good basketball team.
Sulk or don't sulk. I just wish some of our fans would stop going out of their way to sell this team short. If you want to complain about a loss that's cool, but at least have the decency to pat them on the back when they take care of business.
I'm excited for the game today.
They were 8-14 from three.
But that's the fewest attempts they've had all season. They average 31 att per game.
I love basketball at the pace we saw tonight.
