Thread: Is Bob Marlin's seat even starting to warm up?

    2 things.
    1. We are losing to traditionally much better programs. Sure I'd like to play em closer and steal one but I'm not suprised we aren't beating UCLA Miami etc.
    2. Marlin has always treated the early season and start of conference play as pre season and tinkered with the lineup a bunch.

You're giving him too much credit.

Paw paw boomer, People in this admin and athletic dept talk. Your sources did in fact decide against talking to the Indy bowl people. We like New Orleans too much. ( lol) I know who told you other wise and they pulling your rod. As for the coaches getting jobbed on their contractual bowl bonuses, thank HUD for getting those from private donors, because Scott was going to renig on what was stated in "the contract" that was signed. So, keep swallowing everything that Scott tells you. We'll see how it all shakes out in the end.
As I mentioned earlier, people in the admin talk, they don't necessarily agree with TJoe and your boy farmer.

Seems to me that everyone is optimistic when practice begins in October, but by the time Christmas rolls around the sentiment is that the coach is a bum.

I'm not a big basketball fan but certainly recognize it's importance.

It seems to me the public's opinion of the basketball program will improve only if we break the cycle of bad start, good finish.
I do not know why, but it seems like every year the staff plays a lot more people in pre conference than they do in conference play. All teams do this to a certain extent, but I think the Cajuns do it to a larger degree than others. It may be it takes them that long to figure out who do they trust. We definitely need a better start to keep fans interested. In today's world, a long winning streak is needed to offset a slow start. The slow starts we get off to every year is somewhat due to the large no. of road games we play in pre-conference. However, this program should be able to perform better in pre conference than it has done in recent years.

Boomer, I wasn't going to comment but since a few of these topics were something I discussed I felt the obligation to correct you. First on the coaches bonues, I'm the one that stated they told that they didn't have the money to pay the bonuses. Now my sources came from within the coaching staff and you went directly to Scott Farmer and were told otherwise. A move that almost landed a very good friend a pink slip because Farmer was embarrassed. So because Farmer told you it wasn't true and you believe that to be accurate? I have experience with both parties and one has been pretty straight forward to me and the other has not at times. The question is who to believe....The bottom line is the money was not paid on time and had to be funded another way. And if that wasn't the case, why didn't Farmer communicate with his coaching staff? On the facilities getting cut, they were indeed cut. Why do you think Hudspeth went out and help raise the difference in cost with the final tally for Phase I at over $32 Mil? Again, you choose to believe who you want without any evidence because you believe in those people. That is a far as I'm going to go with this because my focus now has changed and you are entitled to believe what you want. You are just not entitled to create your on score card on whom is more accurate considering your answers come from people that have a history of misleading people. Merry Christmas Brother!

    Mike,

I took a while to think about your question, and then actually discussed this with my wife since basketball games are something we have been doing together now for 39 seasons.

We have decided that we will no longer attend UL Basketball as season ticket holders. We will also not be RCAF members any longer after this year. We already do not attend Football games.

Next season we will buy tickets for baseball, women's basketball, and softball. We will be giving up men's basketball for women's basketball. We will also no longer give to the RCAF but will instead buy two additional tickets to support baseball and women's basketball. The idea is that the money from season tickets goes directly to the team, and RCAF is dealt out as the RCAF sees fit. I have lost respect for Marlin and would rather see my money go to the sports of my choice than basketball. Heck, I'd rather my money go to the dance team than the basketball team.

I will make a commitment that I will buy men's basketball tickets again when they change the coach. I do not buy football tickets simply because I don't enjoy going to football games.

Direct answer.... my seats will go empty even if we win every game from here on out to the end of the season. If the team goes to a post season tournament I will not go simply because I don't deserve to follow them after taking this stance.

But it's a home game against a quality opponent which will help our RPI.
I agree with your comment given the current circumstances (a fan base unimpressed with the program). If the program created confidence within the fan base, the earlier season good OOC opponent home games would generate really good attendance numbers (relatively speaking).

No one has any obligation with their time or donations. If you do not enjoy going to basketball games any longer I hope you do find something else to enjoy during that time. Have you thought about passing on your tickets already purchased to someone who may enjoy a game now and then.

I take people with me to games, but I do not give away or sell tickets when I'm not going to the game unless someone asks me for tickets, and I don't always do it then. Giving a ticket to someone is a great way to get someone interested in the games, but asking them to buy a ticket when they go to the game gives the team additional income.

I'm pretty sure revenue from season and individual game tickets aren't dedicated to the sports involved. Instead the money goes into the general fund.

I'm thinking there's a way you can support the sports you want without buying unneeded tickets.

Regardless at the end of the day FarmerBROWN can add or reduce the universities support to any sport making individual donations more show than fact. Perhaps a direct donation once the budget is set.

OldAlum, if you want to donate directly to a certain sport, join that specific teams club. Ie, the diamond club for baseball. Great perks and goes directly into those staff's hands.
