1) football is as big as it will ever get at UL.
2) we are in as big/good a conference as we will ever she in as long as Scott Farmer is our AD.
3) conference affiliation is determined by ACADEMICS in most conferences. We are a great school but for some reason we are not looked upon like the SEC schools. The presidents in the nicer conferences don't want us.
I totally disagree which is why I started this thread. He is a do nothing coach who happened to get two players. He did not develop those players. They were developed by the coaches of the national teams they played for.
At what point do we say WIN NOW or look elsewhere?
Ep spent a month with Billy Donovan. Long was less than two dozen rebounds short of ul's all time record when he joined the pan am team and was also the active leader in double doubles by at least ten when he left for pan am. He is still the leader and now is the all time rebounder for the Cajuns. A feat he achieved less than five games into the season. I get it you don't like marlin, but to say four weeks for each kid with another coach caused this is just not plausable.
You familiar with the word serendipity? Bob Marlin is. He got under recruited EP because the kid graduated a year too soon. That's fact. If he graduates at the proper age Marlin gets not a sniff. Long went to MSU. Found he wanted to be home. We were the natural fit.
I'm not going to knock any players, but many were our second choices after losing out to teams like WKU.
Bob Marlin has done barely anything with EP and Long. You guys simply need to accept he's an overpaid mediocre coach.
No way. Bob Marlin deserves all the credit in the world for bringing Elfrid Peyton and Sean Long to Lafayette.
You're right, Elfrid Peyton wasn't on a lot of team's radars. And that's exactly why Marlin should get all the credit in the world for signing him. When every other school didn't see the potential in EP, Marlin did. I don't care what the reasons were. In this case he out recruited every other coach in the South. And as far as Sean Long is concerned, we are one of 6 D1 schools within an hour and a half of his home. He picked us over those other 5 schools, including an SEC school and an AAC school. That's to Marlin's credit. He built that relationship. And if you try to argue that those schools didn't want him, that's also to Marlin's credit because once again, he identified the potential in a player when other schools didn't.
EP a late signing. Most good programs already done for year. Bobby got called so he's smart enough to grab an acorn in winter.
Long isn't an hour and a half from six schools , he's from Morgan City. So he beat out Nichols, Southern LSU, and TooLAME. LSU had good big men. The only serious competition worth anything in your 1.5 hours was the Lamers.
Again congratulations on beating out one SLC team. And recognizing an acorn in your path.
Clearly you don't read the CRZ. Josh had multiple articles about players he lost out on. Players not going to P5 or outstanding mid level basketball schools. I'm not going to negative those fall back kids on this team. Just know some play lots of minutes.
You can love a coach who is flirting with a losing 1A record. I'm not. This is year six. All mediocre. Throw out the paid losses and his non division one wins. It's around.500 in one of the absolutel worst basketball conference.
I didn't say anything about other recruits or past seasons or coaching. I don't know enough inside info to comment. I'm only talking about those two players.
I know you don't like Marlin but you have to give him credit where credit is due. If you're going to put the blame on his shoulders every time he swings and misses on a recruit you have to give him the credit he deserves when he hits a home run.
