Like is says on the shampoo bottle...... RINSE AND REPEAT.

No season tickets for me next year, or any year until Bob Marlin is no longer our coach. I will take that money and buy more baseball tickets if any are available.

You are right in that you won't have basketball season tickets next year as Coach Marlin will still be here at this time next season. Beyond that will be determined by how he does next season. With the baseball stadium expansion, you may have an opportunity to buy more season tickets in that sport.

Coaches salaries are set by the market, not by local conditions. Nationally, basketball coaches make a lot more than diamond coaches-period. That is simply because roundball gets a lot more national coverage and will for many more years to come. Weather in the north and pace of play are big reasons why that is. What we are paying our basketball coach is the going mid major rate. Now if you think he is not earning his keep or want a replacement as you have made clear is your wish, that is a different issue. Our next basketball coach will make a similar salary to our current one. What we pay our diamond coaches is more than competitive for other mid majors. They of course deserve it and more.

Mike, UL is not a mid-major in the stick and ball sports, we are a high major in a mid major conference, and the SBC is very nearly a high major conference in softball.

Interesting, I used think about this topic a lot.

Unfortunately, unless we are in a P5 conference, UL will always be considered 'mid-major" in all sports.

I get paying Marlin the going rate. At the same time I'm not keeping a guy who's not trending to the top of the going rate, setting a new high in his market. After all it's not about being third and fourth all the time.

Not necessarily true. There are conferences that are considered High Majors in hoops and stick and ball sports that have no FBS football members.

Maybe so, but we are not one of those schools. Even schools with National Championships in baseball like Rice and Fresno State are still considered by most as "mid major"

By casual fans and maybe members of the press; but I doubt any NCAA baseball coach ever refers to either of those as mid-majors.

Okay, for those that said wait until the end of the season to make judgement, the end of the season is here. 16-13 is our final score and that includes wins over:

    Mississippi College*
    Louisiana College*
    Loyola*
    McNeese State
    New Orleans
    Appalachian State (Home and Away)
    Georgia Southern (home and Away)
    Georgia State
    South Alabama
    Troy (Home and Away)
    Texas State
    UT Arlington
    ULM
    Arkansas State

*According to those schools these were exhibition games making our record 13-13.

If the regular season counts for anything a coach with a 13-13 record with a team that has the player of the year/first round NBA draft choice gets an "F" for his lack of success.

So now if we go on a winning streak of three games in a poor conference tournament some of you will want to raise that grade from "F" to "A" because he will make post season play. Some of you will get excited if we get into the same tournament as last year WHERE WE PAY THEM TO ALLOW US TO PLAY IN THE TOURNAMENT.

It's almost time to turn in our final grades for Bob Marlin this season. Unless he wins the Sunbelt Tournament my grade will be an "F". If he wins the whole tournament and does not win a first round game in the NCAA he can get no higher than a "D".
