You are correct a D line coach will leave here to be a D line coach at a P5 school in the drop of a hat. That's a no brainier. The question is would Melvin smith leave as a DC to be a DB coach again.

No and if you read closely you will see that I am suggesting just the opposite. The ? was would a coordinator leave to go back as a position coach?

We should all know at this point...it's Hud's defense.

Coaches SHOULD get the credit or the blame.....they are in charge of this and have to own it either way

They were released because AU brought in a new coordinator who brought in his own assistants. I think if you can't coach it gets out before you spend 20 years in the SEC.

Auburn is paying him the remainder of what they owe him minus what he gets paid here. He is currently making very good money, not sure how long he has that deal but I'm pretty sure it's at least for next year. I've seen enough good out of his defense to want him to stick around. He basically has played without his most dynamic playmaker for the whole season and took 7 games to get the other one healthy. It really feels like we have had more injuries this year than the previous 4 combined.

Yes.....it's common for assistants on the p5 level to have 2 year contracts

I'd argue we need both. I think Berry is a pretty good offensive coach but I actually think you can go and get much better than him, even with our budget.

From what I'm seeing on the field, Hud should start from scratch again on defense. The UL defense is pathetic and looks unorganized and chaotic. I don't see quality coaching and little talent, I see poor coaching and quality talent, especially at linebacker. The defense is awful and it would be a hopeless off-season knowing this same group of coaches are back next year doing the same thing as what we are seeing now.

Read the articles from these past couple days, write down the injuries they list on defense, what do you suggest the staff do differently? The defense had had a couple shutout halfs...3 point halfs. They aren't the iron curtain by any means but awful and hopeless aren't what come to my mind when I think of this defense...injured and undermanned.
