Thread: UH Football Coach

    Default UH Football Coach

The UH Board of Regents headed by Tillman Fertitta just approved an increase in pay for football coach Tom Herman from $1.35M to $3M in an effort to keep him. UH is 10-0 and is one of the most sought after coaches this year. The increase will come from donors and auxiliary reserve. No state appropriations will be used. Fertitta said the board would raise the funds and much was already raised. Herman only stated that he was flattered and appreciative of the commitment by UH (definitely keeping his options open). Must be nice to get a $1.65M raise. He will get even more if he goes to another school.

UH also approved a $60M renovation to Hoffeinz Pavillon (which is a dump and really needs a makeover). UH received a $20M anonymous gift to kick off that project. Must be nice.

UH wants to make a statement that they want to be in a P5 conference.

They haven't negotiated with Herman yet. This was approval to offer him the raise. From everything I have read it will accomplish 2 things...if he leaves they can show the fan base they tried and it shows the support they are willing to give to the next coach.

He is highly sought after. I'd be surprised if he is still with Houston next year.

Tom Herman and Justin Fuente from Memphis will both be highly sought after coaches in the next month or so.

It is amazing the difference coaching makes. One could make an argument that last years cougar team was more talented. Under the previous staff there were several cliques on the team. The previous staff did a nice job of recruiting but had zero clue of what to do with it on the field. We had a very good defensive coordinator but offensively it was high school level schemes. In the first game in our new stadium against the powerhouse program of Ut-Seaworld( ut- san antonio) we actually were shutout until the final minute of the game. We were only down 27-0 at the time. We actually were unable to make a first down for the entire second and third quarters. The current uh offensive personnel is actually quite limited but the current staff has designed game plans that our players are capable of executing. We may lose our staff after this season but it is worth enjoying this years team and not having to watch inept football. Watching Elijah repeatedly up the middle makes me question on whether or not the Cajun staff is really getting the most out of the players talents.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking when we were losing to ULM (Todd Berry = $360,000)
