Can someone share their observations of the team last night?
The game is airing on Cox channel 38. The fox sports channel that the Pelicans play on. Just checked it on my guide.
As for the bball season, I'm excited. I went to the exhibition and to the game last night and the thing that sticks out the most is the depth. We have a bunch of guys that can play at a high level. Just need to execute. Hope we can come out with a few big wins over the next week or so.
We can't blame the refs for doing what they are mandated to do.
I joked with them before the game and said the goal was 100 free throws and if they didn't get to 100 they werent doing their jobs. Then the convo got serious. I don't think the officials like this at all.
AT halftime, I told them they were only off by five. They asked how many fouls and I told them 38 total. If you notice they didn't call nearly as many in the second half
Coach and I talked about it on pregame. He said there are going to be a lot of ugly statistics early in the season until coaches and players get a feel for what is and isn't called. The coaches and players are going to have to adjust. The mandate with the officials comes directly from the NCAA.
We will have some games early that are free throw shooting contests. We have to do better than the 69 percent from last night.
I don't like the new mandate. But it's here.
Overall I thinked they looked good. Once the defense gets a feel for how games are being called now they will be very good. The offense i felt kept shooting unnecessary three's (mostly form Register and Shepard) when they didn't really need to, the good though was that they were very quick and they found ways to the basket and offensive (and defensive) rebounding was really good as well.
We looked really good! This is the deepest and most talented team we've had since Robert Lee's 1st year. I feel like there are 8-9 players on the team who are legitimate starters. Long is better and stronger. Wright seems to be playing much much smarter. Walker will be a beast. The JUCO transfers will be huge.
It will be hard to tell just how good we are until we go up against better competition, but I'd put a lot of money on us winning the Sun Belt.
That 04-05 team (Lee's first year) was incredibly talented but it was lack of depth that did them in. There were only 6 guys that could really play that year. Mouton turned out to be a solid player but we wasn't ready as a true freshman that year. This team doesn't have that kind of talent but with the depth they could be even better. They are a legit 12 deep without a true freshman in the group.
