Haack played very well. I have noticed that he cannot make more than one read. In this day and age...with the NFL being such a pass happy league...there is no excuse for a Junior quarterback (who isn't a running back) to be unable to make more than one read. If it's ability...it's Jordan Davis time. If it's coaching...they need to ask somebody who knows how to coach it. Haack also needs to get better with the clock in his head. He had time on several throws that he rushed, and hesitated on throws that should have been out of his hand in half the time. If he was a sophomore I would be psyched. But it's week ____ing 9 in his junior year. He either cannot cut the mustard, or the coaches have failed him miserably.
Hud's refusal to acknowledge that Haack is our QB, and that Davis needs to be our backup QB and Nixon needs to be a RB is at the heart of our offensive woes. There are other issues, to be sure, but if we had built our offense [starting in the spring] around Haack's skill set, and used Davis, Nixon, Eli, Riles, Robinson, Fuse, Scott and Haynes appropriately, we would be MUCH better than we are now.
The warning signs were there.
He kept playing TB when Gauthier became healthy.
He forced Nixon into the QB mix in the middle of last season instead of grooming Haack and begin to design a plan around him for this season.
Currently, he is either willfully or ignorantly blind to the fact that his offensive scheme does not match the talent on the field, and he insists on continuing with the charade of Nixon at QB for reasons that can only be known to him.
Noticed this as well and mentioned it last night. Haack has a great arm and is very accurate but quickly locks on to his primary receiver and tends to force the ball even when the receiver is not open and that may have to do with the lack of time he usually has. I too agree that it's time to at least see what Jordan Davis can do with meaningful snaps early in a football game. At this point it's time to plan for next year.
I've noticed that Hud gets fixated on "his" guys. It's how Octravian Anderson has started for us for so long. It's why we have a goofy special teams return rotation instead of giving it to one person. It's why we have a QB problem. He just needs to get out of his own way. He pays assistant coaches for a reason.
