I give up. Everything is turned onto a Haack Nixon ____ing match with you guys. My point is Haack isn't going to be a scary QB running the zone read. He needs to be passing the ball 40 times a game if we want to maximize his effectiveness.

Have you ever considered you turn everything into a Nixon Haack ____ing match? He doesn't need to be scary... Pick up first downs and keep getting redzone TD's like he has when he keeps it. Make the defense respect it enough to get Eli some space. Just don't lose the game. The offense would evolve as he gets more comfortable and knows he won't be yanked after an incomplete pass.

Bingo. Is it really that complicated to some?

    Good point.

So his per average carry goes down, but our passing yards per play goes up. Yeah this still works, no matter how much you prefer Nixon.

...and Eli's numbers go way up if we succeed in getting the passing game going, and that is the nub of the situation. We have one of the most dangerous weapons in college football, and he can't do anything because we have zero downfield passing.

---Again--I go with the coaches judgements--I like when Haack was pulled and Nixon had the night with almost 500 yards---I liked Haack when he came in and performed in games where Nixon wasn't the spark----I trust my finance guy, electric guy, insurance agent etc as they have performed well---I trust this offensive staff because of their past performance---It is not Haack or Nixon in my feelings---It is the Ws that I think/know they (the coaches) have vast more knowledge than anybody that posts on this board!!!

Don't give up. You seem like a pretty level headed guy. But in reality, your posts have tripled the Nixon versus Haack arguments. You are very correct that Haack needs to throw much more often to be effective. And it opens up those daylight runs for him occasionally. As much as we all know Nixon is a much much better runner, he is showing some serious issues with his passes as of late.

I personally believe that Hud is so fixated on what he wants... he's missing what he actually has in talent this year. And there is no way that an alternating series with these two radically different QBs is a good solution. Haack should be assisted with play calls that absolutely support his skillset. And that includes a few adjustments in personnel. Nixon needs to come in on situational downs only at this juncture in the season.

My position isn't so much what Nixon lacks... although his passing (not even reaching receiver's feet) has really gone to pot... it's more of that I do not believe in splitting series with these two QBs anymore. Haack needs Saturday reps to get the timing and touch down. Every other team we face is doing it. It's coaching 101.

Hud needs to stop this QB decision quagmire. It doesn't exist anymore. And it is time to work the lead horse into shape. Bring in Nixon situationally... or if Haack is injured or just not finding any success. But saying Haack didn't do well on 3rd down conversions is a pile of BS. The coaching staff is 100% to blame for 3rd down conversion issues.

Even Haack's tendency to hold onto the ball when he ought to just see and sling... is on coaching. Do you see how many times he's thrown a check down pass and noticed that 3 of his options are all not passed the line of scrimmage? We even run routes that place of the defenders in a group around our receivers. Much of our issues are created by this coaching staff.

Here's the short version: Play Haack with his best play suite. Use Nixon situationally. The QB contraversy is a figment of Hud's imagination. Bourbon makes your schlong longer and so hard a cat can't scratch it.
