All-Gulf States Conference first team selections in football were Steve Gossen, seated left, and Jerry Allen, standing center, shown with football coach Jim "Red" Hoggatt. Gossen a halfback led the offensive squad during the 1959 campaign, while Allen turned in outstanding work at the guard position.

Congrats to Steve---Great contributor to SLI, USL and UL. I remember seeing the La state flag in his office before it was delivered to Lafayette. A true bleeder of Vermilion. A real Bulldog Cajun.
