And let's be honest, a 2 QB system can work in the sunbelt.
And let's be honest, a 2 QB system can work in the sunbelt.
Based on the level of defense played in this conference, and 2 QB system meaning 70/30 PT. in order for it to work, we have to keep defenses on their heels by throwing Nixon some and running Haack some.
Haack's success with his limited coaching staff will be hinged on this: He has to be able to pass when he wants to pass and not when he HAS to pass.
Also, we have GOT to get away from this one-read, two read, tuck it and run bull_____. Coaches need to trust Brooks, and let him go through progressions. If they aren't willing to do that, utilize the three step drop, get the ball out of his hands quickly, help out the Oline, neutralize the pressure, and EXPLOIT THE MIDDLE. Eventually defenses will soften, and then you gash them with Eli and Torey.
We have enough good running backs that I don't see why we NEED a running QB. If we can't get a running game going with McGuire, Pierce, etc... then having a running QB isn't the answer...he would be just another RB at that point. Have a guy who can actually pass in the game and scramble if the situation arises to do so.
Have a threat to throw and they won't stack the line every play. If they don't stack the line every play then you have opportunities to run. If Nixon is such a good runner then put him in the RB stable and let him get carries that way.

Let's be even more honest.
In this mythical 2 QB system, the only times it makes sense for Nixon at QB is short yardage/goal line plays.
IMHO, the kid is too talented to ride trhe bench that much. The solution is not to play him more at QB. It is for him to get some touches as a RB. He could do this and still share time at QB like I said above.
Ok, lets talk about Nixon's "throws" against Texas State.
I will give him Robinson's 2nd TD catch which was a 31 yard TD throw. What other one do you want to talk about.
1. Riles's 22 yard TD catch, it was a jet sweep.
2. Fuselier's 17 yard catch that he had to basically steal away from the DB
3. Robinson's acrobatic catch on a line drive thrown at him. If Robinson does not get his hand up, the ball might land in the 1st row of the stands.
Which other throw you want to talk about?
When an opponent stacks the box against Nixon, he needs to be able to do this. http://youtu.be/Fj9RWTNrzaA (2:37)
I was just starting to watch UL football in 1995, comparing talent from the Stokley era to now, would you say on paper that we have more or less talent? It seems to me that Coach Stokley got a lot out of his players and they didn't quit from what I remember.
