Two possessions in that weather is not a picnic. Good thing we had special teams sucrose.
Of course you can say 3 possessions....after the fact. When a team has the ball and are down 8 points with a minute left, I've never heard a single person ever say such team is down 2 possessions.
Serious question: is a 2-point conversion considered a possession? If so, I'll gladly say in wrong.
I'll let you guys continue to debate the quarterback, the coaches, the receivers, the play calling and everything else.
Someone made a post during the game how bad our special teams suck.
Tonight we had a blocked punt, out punted (net) our opponent 41 yds to 22 and had a 37 yard punt return. Going into the game, I thought it was the biggest advantage over ULM that we had. To their credit, they showed it.
Yes, we allowed a long kickoff return, dropped a snap which resulted in a short punt (weather had everything to do with that) but we took advantage of our advantage and honestly, I think the punt game won the game for us.
And, it's time to give the defense some credit. Other than the drive that resulted in the missed FG, ULM did NOTHING...NOTHING on offense in the second half.
And props to Haack. Before the TD pass to Robinson, his passing numbers were worse than Nixon's. But he made a great throw in that weather. The other two QB's on the field didn't have that capability.
It's not about stats, it's about points. The Cajuns got 21 with Haack as QB. I gave Nixon plenty of credit (that some of you didn't want him to have...be honest) for generating points earlier this season.
Haack gave them the spark they needed....no question. He showed great leadership.
Jay, what is the average starting field position for cajun opponents on kickoffs for the year? The punter is vety good but other than that the special teams is not good.
All of those stats that you rambled off were against a 1-6 ULM.
Of course you folks fail to mention who they lost to:
Alabama
Georgia
Georgia State
App State
surely you agree those are pretty good teams
