Yes the added schools make the schedule easier, but the ability to attract quality athletes is much, much harder today than it was 20+ years ago.

Meaning the results are a wash and it is fair to compare final records.
You have to negate that recruiting metric by the realization that recruiting wasn't as widespread as it is today so that larger talent pool might have been...but the majority of prospects weren't reachable like they are today.

    That is true.

Even then the State of Louisiana had the largest number of players (per capita) in the Nation.

With less outside competition, advantage Nelson.

You are obviously dealing with pragmatic facts but that does not seem to matter to some

I think Hud is trying to trick himself. Not sure how much he believes about his own coach speak. A clip was played this morning on 103.7 I guessing from an interview yesterday or Tuesday. Hud was all juiced up about how great of a Homecoming we were going to have. So many former players were coming back, tailgating was going to be great, attendance was going to be great, weather was going to be great, .....

I just hope we have 1 more point on the scoreboard more than Monroe.

Still the majority of those players, especially top tier where penciled in at LSU, and major southern schools, and some northern schools had set up shop in Louisiana at the time. So it was similar to the way it is now. The top tier are still penciled in at LSU, and most Southern powerhouses set up shop, but smaller level P5 programs now have the resources to recruit heavily in Louisiana and other southern states. It's no longer just the big northern powers who can recruit the south anymore. Therefore...any recruiting advantage Nelson had...is negated.
