Last year' DC was leaving for the NFL.

Stewart's replacement went 9-4 as well.

I heard it on solid info he was fired before he took that job. Are gonna have to fire an entire offensive staff while still having an "incredible" season?

If the Florida school hadn't rescinded their offer he would already have been gone.

Willis getting an NFL offer was a surprise, his departure was not.

---Now C-Hawk--have you been checking you Massey stats??? Got to admit they have lost to only pretty damn good teams----Don't know about their being inferior as they are ranked about 10 spots ahead of us!!!

Akron is not inferior to us, since we lost to them. But they are still not a good team. That loss should never have happened.

They "tricked" us...as did 3 other teams.

    Bustle went 6-5 in 2005.

I can show you numbers, but virtually any service you use will show a significant decrease in strength of schedule form the Bustle years to the Hud years.

This along with the change in the NOLA Bowl invite requirements account for ALL of the difference in records between the 2 coaches once Bustle had the schollys back up to near normal in 2005.

Bustle rebuilt a program from nothing. Hudpseth inherited everything and was given an easier schedule to boot.
We got pounded by eastern michigan that year. They were and are one of the worst teams in D1. We beat some bad teams that year. How can you say they were better than our current schedule? Show me the numbers.

MT, north texas, Troy? Those teams are not any better then or now than what we are playing in conference currently.

Lets remember the Eastern MIchigan game was about two weeks after Katrina. We had many players affected by that in a way you and I still can't imagine.

I think that team could be forgiven because of that particular event.

We lost to Texas, beat Northwestern State by 3 TD and got beat by UCF 24-21 on a late score.

But even if we win vs. EMU and UCF, we still don't go to a bowl at 8-3

    You're right.

I was thinking of the Nelson years' schedule strength numbers which were considerably higher than either Bustle's or Hud's.

The schedule strength numbers for Bustle and Hud are nearly identical.

A "program" yes but nonetheless it was a program he could only get 3 wins out of at his end.

Something to consider for Nelson's tenure his schedule was stronger but his talent pool was only divided amongst 90 or so teams.

There are 3,000 more kids being sucked up by the schools that joined the D1 ranks since then.

Yes the added schools make the schedule easier, but the ability to attract quality athletes is much, much harder today than it was 20+ years ago.

Meaning the results are a wash and it is fair to compare final records.
