15. Louisiana-Lafayette
Total Recruits: 17 (12 freshmen, 5 JC transfers)
Recruiting Coordinator: Jeremy Talbot
Overview: This is a banner haul for Louisiana-Lafayette in a year that could eventually be looked back upon as a game changer for the program. The team was highly fortunate when it came to the draft, as four of its top recruits all turned down significant offers from professional teams. This is a class that will add major power bats, speed, and front-of-the-rotation type starters. If you’re looking for a sleeper class around the country, this is a class that could top that list.
The Stars: Scouts in the region, as well as the coaching staff, have been highly intrigued this fall by transfer Steven Sensley. A lefty swinging slugger who mashed a record-setting 21 home runs at LSU-Eunice, Sensley has one of the purest lefty strokes in the region and is looked at as an immediate impact player at first base and the outfield. Nick Lee is a power-armed 6-foot-5 righty who could play an immediate role on the pitching staff as a freshman. Lee could have taken home $1 million in the draft but instead priced himself out of the mix, to the huge gain of his new team. He hits the mid-90s with his fastball, living 90-93, and shows a highly advanced feel for three pitches. Hogan Harris was a highly touted lefty arm coming out of high school, also spurning big dollars, and he also lives at 90-93 mph with a big breaking ball.
The Sleepers: The team is very enthusiastic about outfielder Ishmael Edwards, a righty swinging outfielder who comes to the program from Howard JC. He’s a 6.5 runner with loud, physical pure tools. Brad Antchak could be a major impact player on defense, showing slick tools at shortstop with power potential from the right side. Righty Jacob Norman hits 93 mph with his fastball and flashes a late-breaking power slider.
Biggest 2016 Impact: Steven Sensley
Best Long Term Prospect: Nick Lee
