I believe we should continue to play them twice a year during that transition period. We need nearby road games due to the budget and we struggle to get non conference home games. As long as they are in Division 1, there is no harm. We also play one to two non D1 games every year. After they are no longer in D1, we can play them at home in one of those affairs.

That is a new announcement. Previously UNO administrators spoke as if the drop to D3 would be more immediate.

According to my sources, the Sun Belt Conference will release more on UNO's future today or Thursday.

I'd be shocked if the series ends anytime soon.

    Great story, Josh.

While the future of the series is questionable, the one thing that is certain is this will likely be the last time we face them as a conference foe.

According to the T-P they are announcing today that UNO is withdrawing from the Sunbelt.

PLAY THEM ONCE A YEAR AT THE CAJUNDOME, THEY ARE THE ONES WHO WILL NEED THE GAME. LOTS OF REASONS TO NOT PLAY THEM ON THE ROAD ANYMORE AFTER THEY LEAVE THE CONFERENCE. JUST MY OPINION.

Does any Div. 1 program play a Div. III program on the road? I would hope not. As you said, let's just schedule them at home.

D-III opponents are considered "money games" for D-I schools. They would pay a guarantee to bring in one of those teams for a home game, like when the Cajuns brought in NAIA University of Mobile and D-III Louisiana College this season. No return trip for the D-I squad.

That is correct Josh. If you were to go play at a Non Div.1, you are now on the road and you might get Frank and Jessie James calling your games plus a cousin. LoL.

Here's a good example of why not to do that. Alaska is Div 2 and they host the Carrs Great Alaskan Shoot-out every year. On the women's side you may remember that WE (Cajuns) beat them out there in Nov 2004, they have not lost to a Div.1 team since that night. All Div.1 teams in that Tourney since too. NOT A GOOD IDEA TO GO PLAY ON NON-DIV 1 TEAMS HOME FLOOR.
    Just my opinion.

Note, my recommendation was to only play them home and home while they were still in Division 1. They will be a Division 1 independent after this season for likely three or more years. They will need that long to transition to Division 3. Once they are in D3, I agree we will only play them at home. In the meantime, we will need more non conference games and this allows New Orleans area fans an opportunity to see their team. I recognize their may not be that much desire to do so under the current circumstances but that could change quickly under new leadership and with good recruiting.

Our games with UNO were always special to me; regardless whether at Chamber, Blackham, Dome or by the lake. Will miss it when it ends. When I lived in Metro NO, it was always great to have the Cajuns come to town - in whatever sport. Good to see Red.

Will give a clap or two for the Privateer players (before the game, anyhow). They are really having to swallow a bitter pill. Wonder with costs climbing as bad as medical costs and insurance how many others will face the same tough choice.
