It wasn't mentioned in the story, but Gibson said he can play both safety spots. Was the back-up free safety at Hawaii in 2007 before getting hurt. Now he says he feels a little more comfortable at strong safety after his knee injury.

And, why can't we give him a scholarship? Did the article say we have too many safeties to offer him a scholarship? If he is that talented, surely he is worthy of a scholarship. Do they just want to wait and see how his injury healed and how he performs in spring practice before giving him one?
Fouquier said that the Cajuns filled their slots for a safety. He played in 2008 at a junior college before completing his knee rehab and sat out the 2009 season, so the coaches want to get a look at him in the spring before giving out a scholarship.
Sources told me earlier today that Gibson will now be on scholarship. He is the 15th public commitment for UL's 2010 recruiting class and joins Bernard Smith, Lionel Stokes and Rob Walker on campus this semester. Congrats to Gibson, who seems like a tremendous young man.
