Thread: Brazil, Haynes could be running more

  1. UL Football Brazil, Haynes could be running more

Like a happy politician on election night, the Ragin’ Cajuns saw some good returns in their 45-27 Sun Belt Conference-opening win over Texas State on Saturday at Cajun Field._

Why is the score of the game such a challenge to report correctly? Advocate had it as 42-27, and this article says 45-27. The score was 49-27. That seems like it'd be the easiest part.

Brazil and Haynes need to be returning kicks and punts, this is extremely obvious after seeing them on Saturday. Eli is a playmaker but he is not electric with top speed like these two guys. They both looked really good.

I agree. If Haynes can handle the punts (not fumble) he should be back there.

I want anyone who can catch a punt other than Eli back there if the DA (Gary Haynes) can do it so be it did you see the hit the Prophet took on that fake punt return. We need him running the ball not returning punts.

This is even more important now that we finally realized we need to run Eli 20+ times a game.

On a recent ESPNU Film Room show with former Colorado and Boise Coach Hawkins, he said all he wants from his punt returner is to just catch the punt. Letting it bounce will eventually cost you points and trying a return will eventually cost you points through turnovers and huge penalties.

The best thing to do is to just catch the punt, unless you have that freakishly good return guy you get once every 10 years.

I wonder if there are any of the new advanced statistics on this. The kind that say you should always go for it on 4th etc. Would be interesting. Always fair catching versus returns.
