    The first thing to understand is that there is no uniformity between the institutions in the ULS.

    The story I heard on our low tuition was that it was suppressed by a legislator from Iberia parish who felt the burden to the poor of Acadiana should be minimal. I believe he was an LSU grad. Additionally the schools had to get legislative approval for increases until recently when the state decided to make the students carry a bigger burden. So now we are incrementally getting to others in the ULS, and LTUR & UNO in particular.

    Part of the difference was that tuition has been partially based on number of students. Tech...with a smaller student base...was allowed to charge more per student.

    That is absolutely absurd. Tuition should be set according to status. Flagship>>Statewide>Regional.

    This situation goes back at least to the 1930's.

    Back when tuition was basically free, the State cut UL the smallest per student check in the Louisiana.
