Thread: Searching for a SIGNATURE WIN

  1. UL Football Searching for a SIGNATURE WIN

Louisiana has won 36 games in the past four seasons, eight more than in any other four-year period in Ragin' Cajuns football history.

At some point in time...well it's probably too late for him to realize it if he hasn't figured it out by now. This game is likely Mark Hudspeth's last chance to position himself for a better job in a higher profile school or conference. This is his fifth year here. He has had several opportunities to gain a victory over a Power 5 conference opponent and has yet to accomplish such a feat. Granted, there are not many schools or coaches who have done so either, but those who have will be ahead of him in the pecking order when an athletic director looks at resumes.

The Cajuns do not play another P5 team for at least two years. While respected to a certain degree, Boise State is not a P5 opponent. Coach Hudspeth is beginning to fall into the same trap that every other coach who has come here falls into: initial early success then a leveling off, then a drop off. He's going to wake up 5 years from now and wonder "What happened to me? I wanted to be coaching in the SEC or Big 12. Why am I still here?"

This coaching staff had better been preparing to do everything they can to win this game. No limits, no complacency, no excuses. These coaches have to see this game for what it can be: the turning point in this athletic program's life, the final nail in every coach's resume, the one bullet point that separates them from every other coach in FBS football, or, quite simply, the death knell of careers.

    A. We play Georgia next year
    B. Coach HUD does not need a "signature win" to move on. Would it help? Yes. But he has taken a program that was consistently down in the dumps to 4 straight bowl wins. He is young, energetic, marketable and a winner. He is done all this without the full support of his administration. He will be at a P5 school.

Hud is going for multiple P5 wins as UL Coach, not just one. Go ahead and start today Coach.
