i disagree. a mistake would be a typo, or a sentence fragment, or subject/verb disagreement. this is an error in reporting resulting from carelessness, or laziness on the part of the reporter. it's not that hard to check background facts. that's what makes your columns and blogs interesting. i have come to trust your accuracy and attention to detail, whether or not i agree with a particular point.

There's no doubt that developing trust is huge as a reporter. But even I've made plenty of bone-headed mistakes. The key is to review what you did or didn't do and modify your process to avoid making the same mistake again. My guess is that guy won't make that same mistake again!
