Thread: New Marlin contract

  1. #1

    Default New Marlin contract

Coach Marlin is getting a new contract...pending ULS board approval. 5 year deal, $455K for first year. $25K raise each year. Loaded with incentives as well.

Also Hud is getting a 1 year extension. No change to financial terms. This puts the 3 major coaches (Hud, Marlin, and Robe) under contract until the 2019-2020 athletic season.

Well that certainly is good news we can discuss

So we are paying a guy half a million bucks but can't buy 2 Division one games to have thirty-eight hundred fans a game unhappy with the schedule.

Rebel RU in Scott FormerAD's office R is he tweeting U because of your undying support?

I'm sorry, can you like not type like a 13 year old?

But to answer your (not UR) question, this information came straight from the UL System website.

    For some. 😀
Are you surprised by Marlins extension? Head coach salaries seem out of control.

Your worth what the market will bear. If the fans don't think so, they usually answer that question with not showing up for games.

I was surprised by the first extension when things were in shambles. This one not as much.

I think Marlin has the program headed in the right direction now. You could make the case that a basketball coach should be paid at least half of what the football coach is but in the case of UL baseball, I could make the same case for Robe. This is especially true with the home attendence in baseball. The difference (which is not fair) is that Robe is a local guy that is not likely to ship out at the first offer he gets. I wish he was paid this much as well. But I do think Marlin's salary is appropriate for the job he has done. I also think that the baseball program in general has not gotten the attention it deserves.

Not surprised; in fact pleased it's done proactively; par for the coarse these days for salaries. Wish list for Marlin.......
    1) It would be nice to get off to a strong start against all OOC competition
    2) win a couple challenging road games vs P5. Most games last few years are not close.
    3) Keep the W's vs Tech coming!!1
    4) In early season D1 OOC games in general seems like we are focused on 'adjusting the rotation' while the other D1 opponents are focused on kicking our tail. Like to see this reversed. We are the team that adapts quickly with each rotation on the floor & it's UL doing the butt kicking.

Adding one year back into Hud's contract may seem small but I believe it may financially be very wise.....if my legalese knowledge is correct that also resets the clock on any contract buyout back to the first year. So lose Hud this year; UL gets 1st year buyout dollars vs 2nd year. It's not a major difference (millions) but more than if otherwise. Something like $200-250,000 higher.

I suspect this contract puts coach Marlin in the upper half of the league but not at the top. I understand the view of some that ULM gets the most bang for the buck from their basketball coach as Richard rid a great job last year and they will be good again this year.

Doubt it. Coaches agents protect their clients. Really is a sellers market.
