We have been playing very well as of late. Can the Gators climb off the bottom and into the playoffs?

I don't see why not. A win last night was a distinct possibility. As it is, we gained one point with the tie. If we play against other teams like we play against the Havoc and the right combination of wins and losses by the other teams, we could realistically wind up in the middle of the pack come play-off time.
ceck the goals against and the penalty minutes

In last nights lost in OT I thought you skated 3 on 3 and if a penalty occures the 4th man comes it to make it 4 on 3.....last nights game they skated 4 on 4 with Huntsville scoring the winning goal at the 3:11 mark in OT....We had Moore, Pernule, Tozzo and Karisson on ice and Huntsville had Myers, Monroe, Kubalisk and Petiot on ice. Monroe scored the winning goal with kubalixk getting the assist. Is it 3 on 3 or 4 on 4.....
Maybe Omi's penalty at the 20 min mark of the third carried into the OT and they decided it was only going to be a 1 minute penalty. Hunstville would have skated 4 on 3 until Omi gets out and skate 4 on 4 until stoppage of play which maybe there was no stoppage until the winning goal. Just a thought.
Would matching penalties call for 4 on 4? I wasn't listening directly to the game so I don't know how the ot started but Mochabear may have the right answer.
The Havoc were on a 4 on 3 power play when they scored the game winner. The stats are wrong if they indicate we had four. We took a penalty with 2 seconds remaining in regulation which carried over.
About the playoffs, without going into great detail, the six spot is actually the best position to be in. First plays sixth with the winner advancing to the finals. Two thru five play two mini rounds to determine who goes to the finals. In my opinion, sixth is better than first, because it is a 2-2-1 format. If you win one of the first two on the road, you can close at home.
That being said, Columbus is not playing the best hockey right now and if we continue to play at this level (preferably higher) we will catch them in plenty of time. Still lots of hockey to be played and you never know which teams will be hot or cold come playoff time, but this will be fun to watch and I am very pleased that the team is gaining ground during this brutal road stretch.
Mocha is correct.
If it were matching penalties I believe it would be 3 on 3 and then once the penalties were up they would skate 4 on 4 until the stoppage of play. I was looking at Point Streak which we all know is very accurate. LOL. I would take Danny's word if he was there. PS showed Omi's penalty at the 20 min mark. I know 2 minute penalties in OT are only 1 minute but don't have a clue how a 2 minute penalty would have been handled at the 20 min mark of the 3rd. I know the last game in Knoxville that went into OT we had a penalty called and the refs tried to put 2 minutes on the board until we were screaming so hard at the linesman that he finally realized their mistake. Gotta keep an eye on those refs. Some aren't quite the brightest crayon in the box.
Sorry, Mocha...guess i spoke too soon. A press release dated Oct 27, 2009 that discussed rule changes for this season shows this:
- Minor penalties in overtime will be two minutes. They were 60 seconds last season.
According to that, it should have been Omi in the box until 3:00 minute mark of the OT period. Gamesheet shows the winning goal scored at 3:11 and 4 players each on the ice. I was home sick last night, so I don't know if that's accurate or not.
You are correct Janet. Just checked the rule book. I guess we convinced the ref to be incorrect. LOL
So what I read in the stats about 4 on 4 when Huntsville scored is a bunch of crap. I know damn well that they skate 3 on 3 in over time. And if there is a penalty than it is 4 on 3. You don't skate with less than 3 players. If a matching penalty occurs that it remains 3 on 3. Now it was mention that if you have a player serving a penalty in regulation at the end of that time then he continue serving it in over time causing you having a PK while skating 4 on 3. If that player serving a penalty in regulation has over 1 minute (1:59) to serve then all he has to serve in OT is one minute.....is all of this correct. All this came up because the winning score came while playing 4 on 4. But the worst thing is letting Huntsville score the tieing goal with 2 mins and 9 seconds left in regulation on a short handed goal......now that sucks.....
We should be hungry tonight. I'm looking for a Saints win then an IceGators blowout!
