The self directed improvement model is the way of the future. If we act like Cincy, Memphis, etc. and do the things they do, then we will have similar success. The old model would suggest that we HAD TO join their league to be like them. The new model says that the power to be them resides within ourselves. All we have to do is act accordingly, if you have the means. If you don't have the means, then go get them, i. e. raise funds, build revenue streams, develop brands.
This is why I get confused when I hear the "you are who you associate with" comment. That is not true. We could join the AAC today, and if we revert back to the "comfortable" way of doing things the next day, we're toast eventually.
If you want to be big time, then BE BIG TIME. ACT BIG TIME. We have to have the mindset of we are a P5 program in a G5 world.
Not even a mention of the Hale interview from ESPN Sports radio 1420 so far on this Thursday.
Hiding behind talk of the Fn Mets & Bluejays.
No.
I pray that one day Hawk, the poeple who post the most on this board realize that the perception game is yesterday. Changing your address doesn't make you a success. Hanging out with a certain group of people doesn't make you a success. Being successful makes you a success.
You want respect? You want perception? Win your league. Beat a major program. Get ranked.
THAT is how you do it. I never perceived Boise as a bottom feeder out west even though they were in the bottom conference out west. They didn't, or couldn't, play the perception game in a fancy new conference. They just went out and kicked tail in all facets of the football program.
Let's be Boise.
Using Boise as a model isn't as heralded as it used to be. They never reached the heights they could have. Because of who they are still associated with. This is their ceiling. They are still left out in the cold, just like we are...and they have had so much success. Perception is the whole reason Boise joined the Big East to begin with...to associate themselves with a BCS conference...no matter the cost. When that rug was pulled out from under them...they had no reason to align themselves with the Big East/AAC.
In contrast...look at Utah and TCU. Two teams who associated themselves with P5 conferences and are sitting in a much better position than Boise is due to who they are associated with. They make more money and are not limited to Access Bowl ceiling...unlike Boise. That's the difference.
