I make this post as I know it will bet bombarded.
The interview was impressive, but what did he say that none of us haven't said here the last 5 years.
He had an open mik night, and that isnt bad, but in his capacity (no ties to RCAF or admin, and obviously not getting the position) he had nothing to lose in saying what we all wanted to hear.
I think we all agree no one here likes Benson and we can all call him on his bullsiht. I dont think it would be smart for anyone in the admin or directly associated with RCAF to call benson or the sunbelt out, publicly. Has any AD or president at any level siht on or call out the commissioner or conference that they currently reside in?
I really don't know who's right here but I have one question:
If Steve Hale is so great, and our administration is so inept, why would he want or need to work here?
No I'm not a minion...just wondering
The rub is...when was the last time you heard the same thing that gets harped on here...reiterated by our administration? You don't. That's what was so impressive...someone who COULD BE our AD...recognizing our fears and concerns. Current admins...don't give two ____s what we think. I personally...no matter how much I give...want my athletic department to give as much of a ____ as I do.
When, even before he was fully employed here, has Scott Farmer ever said a fraction of what Steve said in that interview? Fans and people in the know saying something, and an AD saying it is completely different. The only thing Farmer has ever said was the "not if, but when" comment about realignment, and has failed, twice to even attempt the correct means of getting us out. He mentioned recently that he had been in contact with AAC. Per Steve, Mike Aresco has NEVER spoken to Farmer or anyone in this Athletic Department, nor do any of the presidents recall receiving a single piece of correspondence from UL offices. Why don't you write to Scott and ask him that yourself, and then ask what exactly was sent and if he could provide some sort of validation; because I know you like proof.
Could the answer to #5 be that a coach or coaches request (behind the scenes that is) for Hale to not be given an opportunity? I know from reading the posts on this board what coaches have stated publicly, but who knows what was said behind the curtain? Just another possible scenario to digest.
As for the 5 candidates who have no ties, I have this to say. I will give who ever is hired a fair chance to perform. They might be the best possible person for the position and we will all get to the promise land that we seek. Being negative towards who ever is hired without giving them an honest chance is counter productive.
I will make this comparison though. And the comparison I am about to make is definitely apples to oranges, but here it goes anyway. Back in the day (many blue moons ago) when I was managing local restaurants (chain brands), one had a policy of hiring a GM with local ties and the others did not. The ones that hired a GM from out of state and from out of this area did so often and is no longer in business in Lafayette. The other restaurant which started in '85 has not only survived, but added many more in the Acadiana area. My point is this, though the 5 candidates might have the utmost qualifications, it has been reported they do not have any ties to this area (still yet to be seen). And though this does not make a candidate better than the other, having ties to this area, wanting to be here and see this University exceed all expectations; it does make me think back to the restaurant days. These out of town, out of state candidates (GM's) that have no ties to the area, no true love for our program and who only look at the position as a job, fail at a higher percentage than the person who has the qualifications and truly wants to be here.
GEAUX Cajuns!!!
i know, what im saying is - if he were to be hired as ED of RCAF, i dont think you see him call out benson or the sunbelt like he did last night. that is all.
example - obviously, right now, the big 12 is in a mess, and you havent heard one member president or AD come out and say that publicly because it wouldnt be in their best interest.
while UL is in the sunbelt, it is not in the admin's best interest to publicly say it is a ____ hole conference.
