Remember, Tech hired Dooley as HC and AD for a combined salary of $500K. They can't pay that much for a HC only. It will be interesting to see how they handle this transition. They'll have to appoint an interim AD to do a coach search and/or AD search. And, all of this in the heart of recruiting period. As you check around the SBC, many teams are losing OCs and DCs to BCS programs and some coaches are being looked at as well. In retrospect, the stability in our program for this year may prove to be a blessing.

I'm laughing too. But I can't help but long for the day when our coach is hired by a BCS school because he's perceived to be worth more than we're paying.

So, in summary, for the folks playing along at home, Dooley's qualifications for the job are as follows:

    1. His daddy was a famous coach (sounds like a recurring trend in Knoxiousville)
    2. He's the only coach who didn't tell UT no.

Wow... I think this is a GREAT hire! He will suck at Tennessee, which will hurt an SEC program... while at the same time Tech will struggle a bit while replacing a coach. I like it.

On the Tech board, they are talking about going after Mike Leach as HC & AD. Don't know that they can afford him. Then again, BCS football and basketball coaches often end up at mid-major programs after being fired and work themselves up to a BCS program again. Stay tuned.

Correction. Tech has to replace a coach AND an AD. Dooley was both.

I am hearing Gus Mulzan. Look Dooley was gone after next year anyway. Yes its bad timing but not the end of the world. Tech will find the money to lure a decent Coordinator from some big school. can't really blame Dooley for taking this. Wow what a gift. Not sure he is ready because he didnt exactly light up the WAC this year but still a gift.

    uhhh... no. No you won't.
At this point, you'll probably get lucky, and end up with a good FCS Head man.

And yes, this is TERRIBLE timing, not "bad" timing. Have you seen how much time is left in the recruiting period? Don't sugar coat this hoss.. its as bad as it seems..

    Karma is a ______, ain't it.. aaaahhhheeee

I wonder if Leach would change them from the Bulldogs to the Pirates ARRRRGH!
Is Tech really that much better than they were when Doooley took over? I know they sucked in 09 under his direction?!? This seems like a bad move for UT.
