Recap: Good night for the Cajun in High A ball. Cajun of the Day goes to Caleb Adams who went two for three, hit his third double and stole his second base of High A.
MLB.com released its Top 30 prospects for each club and 2 Cajuns made the list.
Blake Trahan was the #7 prospect in the Reds organization: "Louisiana was a good place to go looking for college shortstops in the 2015 Draft, with LSU's Alex Bregman going No. 2 overall to the Astros and Trahan, the Louisiana-Lafayette product, going to the Reds in the third round, beating alum Jonathan Lucroy by 17 spots as the highest-drafted position player ever from the school.
Though he played third and second base in deference to Bregman on the U.S. collegiate national team last summer, Trahan is capable of sticking at shortstop in pro ball. He has range to both sides, reliable hands and a strong arm. He tends to flip sidearm throws to first base, however, costing him some zip and accuracy.
Trahan has well above-average speed but sometimes gets too power-conscious, which leads to swing and misses and harmless flyouts. He'll need to improve his pitch recognition and learn to tone down his approach to take better advantage of his quickness."
Austin Robichaux was the #22 prospect in the Angels organization. " The son of Louisiana coach Tony Robichaux, Austin Robichaux helped the Ragin' Cajuns match the school record for wins and reach Super Regionals in 2014. The Angels drafted him in the 18th round and sent him to Rookie-level Orem to make his debut.
Robichaux fills the strike zone with his whole three-pitch arsenal. He gets good sinking action on his low-90s fastball, and effectively mixes in a curveball and changeup. On any given day, any of his offerings can be his best weapon.
Though Robichaux has advanced feel for pitching, there are concerns about his durability. He missed two starts during his junior season with bicep tendinitis and there's some effort in his delivery. That might mean he ends up in the bullpen in the long run, but his understanding of the craft gives him a chance to move quickly in the Minor Leagues".
