    This is really big news.

If Shawn was good enough to make this team, that means he worked his tail off. Every minute of every practice.

It's no secret Shawn would rather play than practice. And it's also no secret he took some plays off from time to time.

But, after the NBA people told him he wasn't ready combined with this experience, I'm going to suggest Shawn has learned a "few" things (pun intended.)

If he brings all that back with him, here's a message to our opponents

    Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Don't know if you've been following all this....but Shawn was listed at 6-9 last year. They measured him before the tryouts. He's 6-10 1/2. He'll be listed at 6-11.

I bet you're right, Jay. I think Shawn might have stared an NBA career worth nothing directly in the face, and I bet that was unexpected.

There's no doubt in my mind that for him to get from where he was at the final whistle of last season to team USA means he has listened to some folks and worked his tail off.

That's how Elfrid got his, so it can be done.

Also... Shawn isn't going to Toronto to sit for a week. 5 games in 5 days, so I bet he gets decent minutes.

This is a really big deal for Shawn, for UL, and for recruiting.

Good points. I've never questioned his ability but sometimes his motivation and maturity have been ?s. Perhaps this marks a big step forward in those areas. If so, we have a lot to look forward to this year!

As his biggest critic on RP, I'd like to congratulate Shawn. The most frustrating thing about him was that he was CAPABLE of so much more, and if everything we're hearing is coming to fruition, he's about to put together a season for the ages. Happy for Shawn Long, sincerely. My comments were never meant personally in nature, always just frustrated with him leaving effort/maturity/leadership on the table. His talent coupled with the intangibles = great days ahead for Cajuns basketball and another Cajun in the NBA to root for.

It appears that Shawn is he is doing what he needs to do in order to get a legitimate shot at the next level. Congratulations to him and good luck at the Pan Am Games!

I never saw Shawn as being behind in his natural development.

Now I think he is ahead

I have always prayed we would have a team of players who do as much as Long does. Yes he is not perfect, but few are.

In any case I find it hard to harshly critique Cajun players. IMO they all bring all they can to the table. Sometimes your best is a state of mind that you have to overcome. Once you overcome that your plateau is so much higher.

at 6-110, he plays forward or center? or a hybrid considering he can shoot from outside
