If you want to go to college there is a way. Sure it may require debt. I earned a Bachelors and Masters degree working full-time. It wasn't easy and I didn't have much financial support as I'm only the 2nd person in my extended family to get a college degree. Many in the 18-21 demographic seem to think that going to college is a right rather than a privilege and feel they should be able to do so for free.

The cost of attendance must rise because the cost of operating a University has risen. Attracting quality professors is expensive. The cost of maintaining the IT infrastructure, including computers, labs, servers, internet connections, Wi-Fi, software, and printers alone are costs that have greatly affected the cost of attendance. These are amenities that had to become commonplace in the digital age. People complain about the rising cost of attendance and frankly all I can say is it should have happened sooner. Universities attempted to keep prices low for too long in an evolving higher education landscape and now are playing catch up.

Good post. You are right, in 2015 there is no excuse to not go to college if you want to. I only have bachelors degree, but it has opened more doors for me than I would have ever imagined. It is worth every penny.

I firmly believe that T-Joe's long term strategy is to completely cut off athletics from University funding. As long as he gets out of the way of RCAF and other fund-raising initiatives I am ok with that.

I am very OK with that. It is the way of the future. The college loan bubble will burst one day, and when it does, the way we fund higher education will drastically change as well. A lot of schools who haven't stopped funding athletics already will not be in a position to respond accordingly and will drop athletics.

Nothing ruins a child more than being spoiled. No ambition, cannot stand competition, and stands an excellent chance of a ruined life. Fear God, work, require responsibility, sports, honor family, honor friends, and a lot less time with games, and partying is a good recipe for a children to have a fulfilling and happy life.

The Tuition is not bad.... roughly 2500 a semester.... the problem is the "FEES".... over 1500 in fees is absolutely ridiculous. That's how they can get away with "we have low tuition". Plus, by not calling it "tuition" they can get around TOPS having to pay for it.

Like I said earlier, we are still cheaper than most, both in the state and the nation, but quit playing games with the numbers... don't call it a "fee" just so you can get around having to call it tuition. If you are basing a 28.58/hr "fee" based on the number of hours you take, that my friends, is tuition.

Our status as extremely cheap is based on tuition and fees. Not just tuition

I agree! I graduated in 2006 and my tuition was under $1500 a semester. The fact that tuition has more than doubled in under 10 years is crazy to me! My kids are young and a long ways away from college, but thinking about paying $8000 a year for college tuition is scary to me!

I don't think that this is expensive at all....it's COLLEGE. I have tuition in the Lafayette area for two kids under the age of 5 and we pay roughly $7,000 a year per kid to eat crayons and sing songs....and this isn't even close to the most expensive daycare/school in the area.

$7000? Newman's pre-school [Isador Newman, in New Orleans] is $16000/kid. That is high end, but still, I worry about folks who place so little value on a college degree that they think that paying what you pay for a new car to get a degree is too much.
