Thread: Cajuns hoops crowds top SBC

I favor dumping all non-D1 games. They are glorified scrimmages and contract fluffers for the head coach, and according to the selection committee, they never happened unless you lose.

As for the attendance, I believe two things are at work here. First, attendance is down nation wide. Second, for many reasons, the Cajundome is not conducive to a tremendous college basketball experience.

I don't know about y'all, but I'm ready to play more and more games at Blackham. Eventually, with a renovation, we might get to where we play the majority of our games there.

That would be a VERY, VERY good thing for our program.

Look at the attendance figures the last couple of times we played them. It's right there on the athletic department website.
Well you know what jay, you keep coming up with excuses but as a damn season ticket holder who goes to all the games, I rather watch those teams/ is that ok with you? Is my personal preferences and opinions so benesth you that I should just keep them to myself? You can be a real pompous ___, you don't know everything. I would never consider missing a gane against those teams I mentioned, I'd go drop 50$ on concessions at every of them. It isn't real hard to convince myself to miss those others. But hey I'm just a season ticket holder, who cares what I think. Let's listen to the guy who is paid to be there.

I have to say I'm not ready to go back to Blackham on a regular basis without major renovation and I don't think that would be in our plans for at least 10 years. We have too many higher priority work to get done elsewhere. For what it's worth, for the post season game last year there didn't appear to be any more folks there than a well attended mid-season game at the Cajundome. The Cajundome also has some reconfiguration work planned that should help with the basketball environment so I'm curious to see how that works out once it's completed.

Reasonable men may disagree, but they should be able to do so without getting personal.

I totally accept your statement that as a season ticket holder, you want to see bigger names and better competition. And you have EVERY right to feel that way.

I was refuting your statement that Houston is an example of a school that would better home attendance. And, told you there were numbers to back up my statement.

It seems every time someone (not just me) gives valid explanations as to why things are the way they are, they are labeled "excuses."

As I said earlier, there are reasons why things are the way they are. And, if you look at mid majors in the deep south, almost all of them have the same issues UNLESS they are able to buy games, which we can't do.

If explaining that, after agreeing about the non-D1 games, makes me a pompous ___, so be it.

    Have a great weekend.

So past attendance records is an excuse not to try and improve interest in the future? Ok. Hey kansas state attendance sucked so let's just not try to get good teams at cajun field....excuses. You try to reward your fans who pay good money year in and year with interesting matchups... Not Milligan college.

I'm sure if the University of Houston wanted to play home and home as they agreed (finally) under coach Dickey, that we would schedule that series in a New York minute.

And, what are you going to use to back up an opinion besides attendance records? This thread is under the premise that better names mean better attendance.

It's a fallacy and the numbers prove it.

And AGAIN....if those teams are available and want to play at the Dome trust me, our staff will schedule them.

It takes two to get it done (as explained in the post where you just thought I was making excuses).

If Tulane wants to come here, we'll schedule them. If Houston or Rice want to come we'll schedule them. If Southern Miss wants to come, we'll schedule them. If a P5 school wants to come (and doesn't insist on 2 for 1 or three for 1,) we'll schedule them.

Our staff calls the above listed schools EVERY YEAR to try and schedule games. Including P5's who are only interested in buying games. They'd love for them to say YES.

You can complain about the schedule. As I said you have the right to do so, ESPECIALLY since you are a season ticket holder.

But understand the staff is trying to get that done. They aren't happy, either.

So you can base attendance records from robert Lee era and Evans era and Marlin era as the same? Let's base the records of the Hud bustle and baldwin era as the same. I don't care if it brings 300 more people, it's more people, are we gonna have to go from 3500 to 11k to make it mean something to you? . You will be at the media table if the other team was out there blind. sesson ticket holders who live 30-40 minutes away aren't gonna keep going to watch us blow out powder puffs by 40 points.

OK, you say I can't base attendance records from the three coaches as the same, then in the next sentence you say people are people.

    did I read that right?

Now that you have FACTS as I posted concerning willingness of non conference teams to come here, what is YOUR solution???????????

yes, a losing basketball team will not draw the same as a winning basketball team against the same opponent, a coach everyone wants fired will not draw the same as a coach who everyone likes against the same opponent. Try not to live in a vaccum just to prove you are right. If jerry Baldwin would have somehow got boise state here it wouldn't have looked like it will next year. Quite simple concept. more latech's,, less milligans

I repeat. How would YOU expect this to get accomplished given what you now know? I've told you these schools won't come here. I've told you we had to use political persuasion just to get UNO to come here. We just renewed the Tech contract...they will be here next season.

    What's YOUR idea?

Why? You know everything, let's just give up... What's the point? Past attendance records show we should just play local high schools. Raise the money to get games, I don't buy people are scared to play us. Just like with everything.... Feed excuses, eat them like a buffet and regurgitate. We were told this same crap for football, yet somebody has managed to find a way to change that. People who are determined find a way, people who aren't find excuses.
