Have to say I've been at Diamond Club meetings where this was spoken about and many would donate if they come up with an actual plan on what is wanted, how much we need to raise, and a method to track the fundraising efforts to let folks know where we stand. They've been on the "silent" phase for over a year with respect to phase II of the master plan (which includes the Tigue renovation), and maybe the reason they are still silent is it prevents anyone from knowing how they are doing. I know lots of schools give updates to motivate giving. It might be worth a try to let folks know exactly what you want and how you plan to go about it. JMO
I'm of the opinion that information and an update is out there for anyone remotely interested in giving to access if he/she is truly interested in donating. At this point, any fan of the baseball program...or our sports program in general...who is using the lack of info as an excuse isn't serious about giving.
I'm a little guy with limited funds and I am not close friends of any of the RCAF or Athletics Department personnel...and I could go by at any time and find anything I want to know about what is going on.
jmho.
At the same time that all this is going on...let's not forget about our head coach that is underpaid. THAT needs to be adressed first and foremost. Time to pony up in that department.
I'm also a little guy with limited funds who gives yearly to the RCAF general fund. Before I give additional funds, I'd like to see something in writing and verifiable. I've been a supporter for 40 years, and I'm a little skeptical of the "just give us the money and trust us to use it the best way" mantra. Show us the plan, show us the cost, give us a timeline based on funding percentages, and get the job done.
I have seen renditions. I have a pretty good idea of what we are trying to accomplish by way of a new baseball facility. if I had a few thousand bucks and was wanting to support the program, with a small amount of effort I could get enough additional information to satisfy any concerns I might have...and could then give what I wanted and was able to give.
Its not that hard.
I bet some are reluctant to give because they hear about a 10 M cap to the project and want their donation to ADD to the project, not simply replace dollars that will already be spent... I.e. They don't want their additional dollars re-allocated elsewhere. They want to see their donation reflected in an upgraded ballpark design.
That's my beef about the required $10M. The $5M matching has been out there for a while. They've been talking about the silent phase for a year. If they say they are still trying to reach the $10M number that means they've been fundraising "silently" for a year and have yet to raise the $5M necessary to get the full match. "Silent" means no ones *ss in on the line in the public eye.
My point was that some were saying they would only give if they knew it was for extra stuff...something over $10million. Does that make sense when we don't even have the first 10 yet?
If we raise $20mil...then I'll give a million, but only if its for stuff over $20mil!
What?
For some strange reason, I thought this was a done deal. I've been hearing about this seven figure donation for a long, long time, nearly ten years. It was there for awhile, then it was not. Is this actually going to happen?
The latest, very lengthy DA article on the Tigue project quotes Robe and Scott Farmer. They repeat the $10 million budget, talk about hiring Lemoine and Lafayette-based Abell + Crozier + Davis, and its national stadium design partner, the DLR Group, but the article says nothing about the money not existing. Isn't the inference the money is there, the budget is met? Who hires an architect and builder without funding?
Who has a silent $5 million capital expenditure funding campaign? The budget portion of this thread defies logic.
