I tried a Laphroaig 18 recently but it tastes and smells like a hospital, as weird as that sounds. I would not recommend
HP 15 has the perfect balance of peat / I've tried all 3 highland parks, but the 15 might be the best whiskey I've ever drank - PERIOD !! (And I sold liquor for 15 years and have tried many many brands over the years!!)

Woodford Reserve and Knob Creek for bourbon. Got a bottle of Jeffersons Ocean as a present, but my wife wouldn't tell me how much it cost. Its very good. Like Jim Bean or Jack Black with a coke, but the best with coke is Old Charter, 10 yr old.....but don't think they make that anymore! Only 8 yr old for sale.

Scotch....oh let me count the ways! Really liked MacAllan before the fire that burned up all of their old barrels. Never been the same since then. I like Aberlour - 12 yr old, Scapa 14 yr old, Glendronach before the distillery was closed in 1996. Haven't had any since they restarted. Balvenie double wood is nice. Glenmorange for the budget conscious. Dewars 12 yr old, if you haven't tried it, you need to. Just about anything older than 15 yrs. is usually pretty damn good, if you like scotch.

    First up:

    What's your favorite bourbon?

What's the proper recipe for an old fashioned?

For me I like buffalo trace. Good compromise between taste and price. As far as old fashioneds go I like em every way. Fruit muddled, fruit not muddled, no fruit, club soda, no club soda....I like em all. But the proper way is sugar cube, bitters, dash of water, muddle the sugar, chunk of ice and some bourbon. Simple and strong.

    Fire away.
    Bookers or Knob Creek

If you want to try different bourbons, stop into Joey's on Bertrand across from Cajun Field. Joey will share his bourbon and mix a drink for you. One of the best selections of bourbon around. I picked up a bottle of Jefferson Oceans there, but I have yet to try it. Also as Bear has suggested, if you are in Houston stop at Specs, you will not be sorry.

For those who are not bourbon drinkers, if you are going to mix it with anything sweet, do yourself a favor and buy a cheaper band of bourbon. Do not spend your money on the good stuff.

I have several new bottles of bourbon that I have recently picked up and will share once I have tried them. I did pick a bottle of Knob Creek Smoked Maple, a little sweet but great taste, try over a few cubes of ice after dinner.

Z and Butthead, I mean Beavis , lets plan an evening before football picks up again. The next two months are the only time I am not traveling with the Cajuns. The last 3 weeks have been great and I wish I was in Omaha but it does feel good to be home. I was really luck in the fact that I was able to see the S-BC baseball tournament and the girls play in Auburn in the same trip.

    Basil Hayden's Bourbon (rocks)
    Glenlivet 15 scotch
New to the scotch game, but like that one.
