Agree, that's why I suggested its the same no matter where he's picked.

I can't help but think his poor hitting in post season isn't helping him right now.

Nope, he is slipping because he never learned how to pronounce his last name.

It didn't hurt Bregman. Scouts look at the big picture, not two weekends of a 3 year career.

The last thing the scouts remembered was the cheers.

I guarantee you if Trahan ended his slump with a great last at bat to cheers at the Tigue in a Super Regional, he would have been drafted already.

It would not have mattered one bit that he goes by Trayhan. Unfortunately when you are in a slump the scouts look for any excuse

Astro's draft was near perfect. Now I pray to the all mighty baseball Gods that they do not trade away all of their young talent for a one time shot at the world series...

Yesterday there was an article written by Baseball America's John Manuel that said BT's stock was rising and he could possibly move into the late first round. Now, no one writes stuff like that without some inside info.

There are a couple of things, in my opinion, happening here. You've had a bunch of pitchers that were rated much much lower, mostly HS guys, that were taken early. That pushes everyone down the board.

And, although slot money is slot money, there are players that don't agree to sign for slot ahead of time. Sometimes those players fall down the board a bit. You've seen many players (especially Mike Cameron's kid) that fell because signability was a question. Funkhowser slipping as far as he did may have had something to do with that as well. We don't know what BT has told the scouts in that regard.

Teams have a finite number of dollars in total bonus money to offer and can divvy up that money any way they wish.

Now as far as other SS are concerned, the big board on MLB, if I remember correctly, only had one SS lower than BT that was selected. MLB had him the 11th rated shortstop.

All year long Bregman was rated the #1 or 2 shortstop in the country playing on the #1 team in the country playing in what they say is the #1 conference in the country. I don't think you can compare the two.

I know many will disagree, but I don't see the same thing in Bregman that scouts rave about. I see a good, not great, SS. I've seen about 10% of his games so my basis of information and opinion are relatively low, but just my personal observation.

Jay has it ever been mentioned around you that there was a bottom line for BT to actually sign? In other words, if he slips any further, perhaps he comes back for another year in Lafayette?

Yes I can compare the two when you make a blanket statement that the last two weeks have impacted one player, but not the other. It works both ways, not just the way you think.
