This is the incoming recruiting class for next year. Hoping that none leave for the draft.!!!! We have an amazing class coming in. The next few years look bright.

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Ragin' Cajuns baseball team signed 11 players to a national letter of intent for the 2016 season, head coach Tony Robichaux announced on Tuesday.

Louisiana signed Donald Comeaux (Maurice, La.), Ishmael Edwards (Tomball, Texas), Hogan Harris (Lafayette, La.), Ridge Heisler (Mangham, La.), Cameron Horton (Bossier City, La.),Hunter Kasuls (Richmond, Texas), Nick Lee (Longville, La.), Dylon Poncho (Elton, La.), Ryne Ray (Bossier, La.), Johnny Rizer (Cypress, Texas) and Steven Sensley (Baton Rouge, La.).

"I think this class is a great addition to the class that we brought in this year," Robichaux said. "What I like about it is that it has some difference makers in it. Because of that, we will have some of these kids drafted. That's the catch when you sign difference makers, but we feel good that these guys want to show up and play college baseball. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

The 2016 class includes seven position players and four pitchers. Eight of the 11 players hail from the state of Louisiana, while the other three come from Texas. In addition, nine of the signees are gearing up for their senior campaign in high school with the other two competing on the junior college level.

"We are really excited about what we have in this class," Robichaux added.
We are brining in four arms that can come in and help us build on the 2015 class. We also brought in some physical hitters that have both strength and speed. That is what has made us very good over the last couple of years. We also brought in some left handed bats that can really help us as well."

Comeaux, a 6-2 right-handed pitcher, comes from North Vermillion High School where he helped the Patriots reach the state playoffs each of the last three seasons including a run to the state quarterfinals in 2013. The local product is the 39th ranked prospect in the state by Perfect Game.

    Robichaux on Comeaux

"Donald is a wiry framed three-quarter slot right-handed pitcher with plus attack in his delivery. He operates at 87-88 mph and tops around 90 mph with command of a slider. He should see even more velocity gains with future strength conditioning, and physical maturity in his body. We feel Donald has a big ceiling, and we are very excited about developing him in our pitching program."

Edwards, a 6-foot outfielder, joins the Cajuns from Howard Junior College in Texas where he hit .366 as a freshman with 15 doubles, four triples, two home runs and 41 RBI while swiping eight bases. In high school, Edwards hit .335 his senior season at Tomball with five triples, five home runs and 31 RBI in 37 games. Edwards was a two-sport star at Tomball playing receiver for the Cougars.

    Robichaux on Edwards

"Ishmael is a dynamic athlete and high character person. He comes from a high profile JUCO, with a long winning tradition. His coaches have raved about him, commenting that not only is he one of the best players they have ever had in their program, but an even better human being. We look for him to provide punch in the line-up as well as leadership in the clubhouse. He brings a wealth of projectable draft tools to the table with his best being his speed. At 200 pounds, Edwards has run sub-6.5 60, which is a very rare blend of strength and speed."

Harris, a 6-2 left-handed pitcher, hails from St. Thomas More High School where he helped lead the Cougars to a 4A State Championship in 2014 and trips to the state final in 2013 and semifinal in 2012. Harris was the only player from the state of Louisiana selected to play in San Diego's Petco Park for the Perfect Game All-American game, which features the top 50 players in the nation. A Perfect Game All-American, Harris is ranked No. 1 in the state of Louisiana, and the No. 5 left-handed pitcher nationally by Perfect Game.

    Robichaux on Harris

"Hogan is a talented left-handed pitcher with tremendous college and pro upside. He combines a deceptive delivery to go along with power stuff. He helped lead STM to a state championship last year, and looks to do the same this season. His fastball has already been up to 94 mph from the left side, and with refined command; could project as a dominant front line arm."

Heisler, a 5-11 left-handed pitcher, comes to Louisiana from Mangham High School where he helped guide the Dragons to a 1A State Championship in a 2013. Despite suffering an injury in April, Heisler still put up strong numbers as a junior going 4-2 with a 3.17 ERA while batting .532. Heisler was a Class 1A all-state selection and All-NELA team selection the last two years as well as the state MVP in 2013. Heisler is the 40th ranked prospect in the state by Perfect Game. A two-sport star for the Dragons, Heisler led Mangham to the No. 1 seed in the 1A State Playoff in 2014 as a quarterback.

    Robichaux on Heisler

"Ridge is a pitchability left-hander that fits our mold of lefties that have seen a lot of success here. He features a plus change-up with great arm speed that compliments an already deceptive fastball. He has a winner's make-up, and just knows how to get hitters out. We feel quality left-handed pitchers are hard to come by, and are excited about getting him on campus."

Horton, a 6-3 corner infielder, is a three-year letterwinner at Benton High School where he helped the Tigers to the Class 4A quarterfinals in two straight seasons. In 2014, Horton hit .392 with eight home runs and 44 RBI. Horton is rated the 37th overall prospect in Louisiana, and is ranked No. 110 nationally at first base.

    Robichaux on Horton

"Cameron is an advanced left-handed bat with plus power potential. For a high school hitter, he is very polished at the plate. He brings easy bat speed and consistent hard contact with middle of the order type of pop. We wanted to stay physical in our recruitment of hitters, and Horton certainly fits that mold. He's a guy who could probably hit right now for most college programs around the country."

Kasuls, a 5-11 shortstop, joins the Cajuns from Foster High School where he hit .333 with seven doubles, five triples and a home run as a junior. A two-sport star, Kasuls plays defensive back for the Falcons.

    Robichaux on Kasuls

"Hunter is an athletic, fast-twitch middle infielder with outstanding actions and range. With future strength gains, he projects as an impact DI middle infielder, as his baseball IQ and skill set are already very high. Kasuls is a prototypical infielder with great feet and hands, and plus instincts. Already a multi-year all-district performer from the Houston area, he adds versatility as a left-handed hitter."

Lee, a 6-4 right-handed pitcher/infielder, is a three-year letterwinner at South Beauregard High School and has led the Golden Knights to the playoffs in two of the last three years. An LSWA All-State selection, Lee is the No. 2 ranked prospect in Louisiana, and the 24th ranked right-handed pitcher in the country. The Louisiana native is also currently on the 40-man U17 USA Baseball roster.

    Robichaux on Lee

"Nick is a high end prospect for both college and professional baseball. He's a power arm with two plus secondary pitches. He has rare command of a three-pitch mix for a guy with a low to mid 90's fastball. Lee pitches with intent and attack, and absolutely loves to compete. He's another guy with front line starter's stuff. As a position player, his raw physicality as a hitter merits giving him a close look as a two-way guy."

Poncho, a 5-8 shortstop, is the second player to sign with the Cajuns from Kinder High School joining junior Blake Trahan. A Perfect Game All-American honorable mention selection, Poncho helped guide the Yellowjackets to a State Championship in 2014 after seeing the squad reach the semifinals in 2013. Poncho is ranked the No. 8 prospect in Louisiana by Perfect Game.

    Robichaux on Poncho

"Dylon was a huge addition late in the fall. He's just a throw-back baseball player with tremendous feel for the game. Coming to us from the same high school as Blake Trahan, he often reminds you of Blake with his mannerisms. The hands and feet work, and he flashes a big arm across the infield. For a guy who's only 5-8, the ball jumps off his bat as he is able to generate occasional power."

Ray, a 6-2 catcher, has helped Evangel to two straight state baseball championships and was a Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State selection while hitting .386 with six home runs and 28 RBI in 2014. Ray is the 20th overall ranked prospect in the state by Perfect Game, and the No. 123 ranked catcher nationally.

    Robichaux on Ray

"Ryne is yet another athlete in this recruiting class who will be considered in the MLB draft. He sports major league, above average arm strength and plus carry through the bag. At 6-2, 215 pounds, he has an ideal body that is durable for the demands of the position behind the plate. What's surprising is how well he runs, 6.9-60, which is a testament to his raw athletic ability. Ryne is also a high character young man from an outstanding family, and class act high school program."

Rizer, a 5-11 outfielder, helped guide Cy-Fair High School to the class 5A Region 3 semifinals in 2014. One of four quality left-handed bats in this class, Rizer is ranked the No. 60 prospect in the talent rich state of Texas by Perfect Game. He's also ranked the No. 102 outfielder in the nation by the same publication.

    Robichaux on Rizer

"Johnny is versatile outfielder who flashes a plus arm and an advanced bat. He can flat out hit with great barrel awareness. His 6.9 speed translates faster on the baseball field due to an elevated awareness and feel for the game. He brings an exciting refinement for the game for a player still in high school, and we believe he will bring impact."

Sensley, a 6-2 outfielder, redshirted the 2014 season with LSUE where he was a member of the squad with current Cajuns Derek Herrington and Stefan Trosclair. Sensley was a Rawlings Third Team All-American and a Perfect Game All-Southeast Region First Team selection as a senior at University High School in Baton Rouge, La. As a senior, Sensley helped guide the Cubs to the 2A State Championship game in 2013.

    Robichaux on Sensely

"Steven was previously drafted out of high school by Minnesota in the 33rd round, and might be one of the most physically talented position players in the region. A former Rawlings All-American out of high school, we've seen him throw 92 mph from the outfield, and had him at 6.6 in the 60 at nearly 220 lbs. What's most impressive is how much natural rhythm and flow he has in his body and hands at the plate. He brings effortless left-handed power that will only get better as his approach to hitting matures offensively. Steven fits the speed and strength profile perfectly that we want our offense to be built around."

"We really like this class that we signed along with the class we brought in this year together," Robichaux said. "We can put a very good product back on the field, especially after losing a lot of good players to the draft from last year's team. It's huge for us to get the top two pitchers in the state. They will be difference makers for us.

"This is a very balanced class, which is tough to always get when you are limited by the number of scholarships. We like that it's not heavy in one area or another and will help us to build on the previous class. Right now we are done with this class and feel good with what we have coming in."

Get the new guy right though . it is Ray Ryne.

This has to be the best collective recruiting years in our history and it has shown on the field.

And don't go to sleep on Kennon Fontenot. The game sped up on him early. But the kid can flat out hit. He's going to contribute and it could be in a big way.

I agree; his last 4-5 at bats this year were all pretty much productive. That light bulb may be coming on.

Just curious if Sensley is coming in as a sophomore in eligibility? I see he RS in 2014.
