Thread: Campus Pics

  1. Alumni Campus Pics

    Turbine,
I was looking at the pictures of the campus thru the years and was wondering what year was the new Martin Hall built. Was the old building torn down or was there a fire?
Really enjoyed looking at photos, hope more come in.

I'm not sure about the years exactly, but in the 1960's (I think), the new Martin Hall was built directly behind the old one. Once the new one was complete, the old one was torn down (I have seen pictures with both buildings standing).

The building that was destroyed by fire was Brown-Ayers Hall, which once stood between OK Allen and Bittle Halls.

Thanks for the info. The pictures you mentioned would be great to add to campus history pages.

Great pics. Another couple of questions. Was that a parking lot where the new student union is now? When was Our Lady Of Wisdom Catholic church built? Thanks for any replies.

    Don't know about Wisdom.

However, I know that at one time there were tennis courts where the Student Union is currently located. (There also used to be tennis courts where the EKL Gym parking lot is).

Can someone tell me why the old Martin Hall was torn down? Why would a university want to tear down it's oldest building? I would think it would have some meaning to the university.

Check in the L'Acadien yearbook I remember us doing a lot of that kind of research for the 1992 and 1993 and 1994 books... They have old books in the yearbookm office.... possibly in the library as well.
