Ever since 2002 when Dan McDonald first suggested that UL and LSU should take a break from playing each other I have been wary of undue media influence. Especially when all that happened was a bat got tossed and a team came to the edge of their dugout.
I thought the media blew 2002 out of proportion, then, and I do not like them parlaying that false memory into bait headlines today.
"Shortstop Skirmish" implies fight and I may be overly sensitive but it could be construed as incendiary.

You know... I saw the headline and thought, WTH? As a writer, I find myself reaching deep into the well to find words that paint a picture sometimes.
But that's just awkward.
Now that you explained it, that's not awkward at all.
It's actually pretty disrespectful, in light of where we are in this moment.
BT and Breg aren't going over there to skirmish, and it's not cute or metaphoric. It's personal, and it's an ugly way to communicate ideas.
I don't see it that way, guys. It was a good article. I've never used or heard someone say, "I'm going to whip your ___... now let's skirmish". Athletics is a contest. Every sport uses euphemisms every day that don't mean you're going to actually act out the direct meaning. This article, regardless of the title, actually reduces a lot of the ridiculous fan hostility and shows that the baseball players are respectful on a level most fans are missing.
This article is much more informative to LSU fans than UL fans. They don't realize how great Blake is. They have no clue. If baseball were a true passion of theirs, they'd know that Blake is a big time MLB prospect. They'd be apt to have the young Ron Guidry coming to town, and still tell you that he's nothing.
The article is a good one. I only found it odd that Blake, Alex and Robe are quoted... but no Paul. But rest assured my Cajun brethren... the upper tier LSU baseball fan (not the goofballs) are extremely concerned about this contest. It won't be about Blake or Alex. It's about late game pitching. And LSU has reasons to be concerned. They've had quite a few breakdowns and they know the Cajuns will take advantage of any lapses. Geaux Cajuns!
The Advertiser is designed and layed out off site, meaning whomever wrote the headline (definitely not Trey) likely has no clue about the somewhat recent history between the two teams.
i also doubt the title was meant to offend anyone. both players talked about battling with each other and how it would be fun to compete.
