ProGrass Turf Systems began the installation of turf at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field on Saturday, Jan. 9.
It's only a matter of time before the entire playing surface at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field is covered with artifical turf.
The installation began on Saturday, Jan. 9 by ProGrass Synthetic Turf Systems - the same company that installed the turf at Cajun Field.
When complete by month's end, "Tigue" Moore Field will have a new turf surface that will cover the entire area inside the fences except for the pitcher's mound. The base paths and warning track - normally dirt or cinder - will be a different color and a different consistency of turf.
Head coach Tony Robichaux has overseen many improvements to the "The Tigue" during his tenure and no doubt this upgrade will reap many benefits for the program.
"It's going to be a big help for us," said Robichaux. "Obviously it will look nice, it will be fun for our guys to play on and it will help us avoid weather problems."
It will also give his staff and players a break from having to conduct field maintenance. Instead they can focus of the task at hand - meeting the demands placed on student-athletes and NCAA regulations.
