You really got to question that poll. I can count at least 8 teams that would have blown us up.
We lost to LSU and NEB---top 20ers---we lost to Troy and Mid Tenn---@ schools that won or should have bowl games---We lost to a pretty damn good FAU team and ____ed away big time FIU--the last FIU killed us and our bowl hopes!!!!!! Who under us could beat us???
If people based rankings strictly on head-to-head we'd have polls that made zero sense.
Head to head is more like a tie-breaker for evenly matched teams.
FAU - Beat UL, but played similar competition and only won only 4(?) games.
K State - Lost to UL, but went on to have a very good season in the Big 12.
It would probably be a better system to have a top 50, then a top 51-75 bunching of teams (in no particular order), then a 76-100 (in no particular order) , and a 101-120 (in no particular order).
I guess I can't count as well as you. There's nobody on that list below us that would "blow us up" necessarily. I think that we could beat or lose to most of those teams. UTEP and La Tech are two that stick out to me that would be tough games and FAU blew us up at home but nobody there makes me worried.
It's usually quite simple to see. This poll is a final poll after the season was complete. Had it been done midway through the season, K-State would be way farther down the line. The fact that they improved and nearly won the Big 12 North and that they were a different team from when they played us probably got them to where they ended up. FAU was judged on their body of work and final record which was not very impressive. Not saying that some of these rankings couldn't be debated but there is nobody below us that I don't think we could or should beat.
I think it is a fair ranking based on our results. My only problem would be that we finished well behind a lot of teams with losing records. I would have put us a few spots higher. If we finish this high next year, I will be thrilled. 6-6 with our schedule next season would be a tremendous accomplishment for Bustle. We will have to dominate most of the Sun Belt to even come close to that record. If he can do 6-6, then in my opinion that would be way better than any new coach that UL could have afforded to hire.
It sucks to be 6-6 and be ranked right behind a team that's 3-9.
