VCU is an upstart. Only 6 programs have been to the sweet 16 the last 2 years. We "upstarted" long ago. An upstart wasn't #6 national seed and #1 for much of the year last year.
I'm not offended, because people are just ignorant. But the English language has hundreds of words that accurately describe this team and program. "Upstart" is about as accurate as "purple."

Athletics Nickname
Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns® is the nickname of the University’s athletic teams. Teams also may be referred to using shorter versions of that nickname. In most cases, Ragin’ Cajuns plural is proper, though Ragin’ Cajun in the singular form can apply.
He used the word in a way that I have never seen used before. If that was the best word he could find, then he's a worse writer than I previously thought. There are plenty of other, better terms to describe the team than "upstart". Terms that couldn't be misconstrued to mean something else.
Go check the bios on Advertiser's website, only one has a degree from UL. In fact, most of the local media have degrees from other schools....Travis Webb (Syracuse), Tom Martin (Missouri), Claire Langlois (LSU), George Faust (Ole Miss), Jeff Horchak (Southeastern), Gerald Gruenig (Nichols State).
Let me make sure I have it straight...if your Sports Editor or Editor allows the use of Louisiana or UL, then the journalist is pulling for the Cajuns. But if the Editor does not allow it, the journalist must not pull for UL.
Got it! Thanks
How can you tell a hater of UL? By how many L's they use: Those who respect UL wishes will use 1 L: UL or Louisiana. Haters use 2 Ls: UL* or UL Lafayette.........it's that simple.
Kendall chooses to write respectfully of program but I see him for what he his......a disrespectful hater. If he truly respected the program & Coach Rob, he'd wouldn't throw UL* in Coach Rob's face at every opportunity, period.
