I looked up three universities that do not go by their official names. Virginia Polytechnic College and State University (VA Tech), California State University at Fresno (Fresno State), and the University of Nevada Reno (Nevada). All use their popular name in reference to their university both athletically and academically. None of them use "University" with their name. On each academic and athletic website, they use Virginia Tech, Fresno State, and Nevada. Virginia Tech even says they go by the "popular name". Aren't we doing the same thing? There is no reason we can't do that across the board, athletically and academically. If a popular name, Louisiana, is legal without University, it should be legal wherever we use it. We should use LOUISIANA on our academic website just as we do on our athletic website. Our official name remains on all official academic matters. But, like these other schools, we use our "popular name" on all websites, in all references to the university, and all other things less official. That is if our President is so inclined to do so, wherein lies the problem. To keep our "popular name" only for athletics only serves to maintain a divided issue in that regard. It has been 15 years since our name change. Isn't it about time the university takes a firm stand on LOUISIANA?
If we are news...it pays his bills for him to write about us. If he likes and respects us...it shouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility that he would respect our name wishes. He can be as flattering as our own beat writer...if he can't respect our name...he is just blowing smoke up our asses, and getting clicks on his website.
He called our Super Regional the most amazing college baseball atmosphere he's ever experienced - multiple times.
LOUISIANA on our jerseys was plastered on their front page as soon as we won the conference tournament.
It was plastered on the front page Friday after we beat Rice.
They ranked us #1 in the country last year almost a month before anyone else did, and kept us there after we lost to UNO and everyone else dropped us.
Man alive, y'all.
It's petty. Bottom line is The Advertiser is a Lafayette paper and of course they support the Cajuns. One of the editors regularly attends Cajuns baseball games and is a fan. Can we get off The Advertiser's back for once? Glen Guilbeau is an idiot, but The Advertiser is doing good things lately.
And in his article that came out today, he called us an "up-start" trying to take down the big dog this weekend. Up start? Sorry Guilbeau, an up-start would be Houston Baptist, who has only been playing D1 baseball for a couple of seasons. The Cajuns have a long history. 15 NCAA Tourny appearances. I don't consider that an up-start. And I think it's a slap in the face.
I expect that from him. He pokes wherever he thinks he'll get a rise. That's why he trolled LSU fans yesterday. he's trolling us.
I decided that all I care about this week is these kids, man.
These kids have taken me on a magic carpet ride. I refuse to get off that ride to hop into the corndog truck.
Everybody's going to experience this week in their own way. I'm going to enjoy it and ignore the ul-l's, the trolls, the purple and puke... all of that.
These kids have taken me on too magical a ride for me to hop on the corndog truck.
