100 yard dash? Sure about that?

    And it's Jim Ryun.

Jim Ryan probably never ran a 100 yard dash in his life. Surely didn't at those Southwestern Relays. I was there. Guy was a miler.

Trust me. I know. I was a distance running history buff back in the day. Went to a running camp one summer at KU. Got to run on a lot of the same trails Ryun trained on. Saw his house and everything. Really cool stuff.

So if I lose, I lose $100, but if I win, I only win $10. Who in their right mind would take that sort of betting line?

We had Jarrett run in our Erath 5K 2 years ago when he was dating my niece. He destroyed Kevin Castille's course record. He's that good.

As a side note, he has a few ties to the local area. His mom lives in Broussard. He's also a very talented accordion player.

----OK before the bet maybe you should read this---
Out of selfish curiosity, I asked Jim what his best times were in the 100, 200 and 400. His relay splits are well-documented, but I didn't know he ran an open 100-yard dash as a KU sophomore. He tells the time in the interview.

Don't bet Boomer anyone. Googled Ryan and he did run a 100 (10.2) Blaine Barrileaux's dad was in the race. Go figure!

As for sub-4 minute miles, 4:00.00 is almost a dime a dozen these days. 4:00.00 was the last preliminary time to get into the NCAA Indoor final at Arkansas this year. 26-28 milers broke the Barrier indoors this year and a bunch had to stay home.
