Got an opinion poll for you guys: Better Cajuns coach - Yvette or the Lotiefs. Each coach has taken this program to the WCWS three times and had many victories...who's your pick?
Better coach for today's game? Mike Lotief. Mike adjusts his coaching, recruiting, and scheduling to match the rapidly changing landscape of softball (more offense, more money into big conferences, RPI, you name it).
Yvette went to 1 SR and 1 World Series with way more money and way more advantages to work with (I mean, at LSU and inside the timeframe of the recent, massive changes in college softball).
Absolutely no question. Not a slight against Yvette. We wouldn't be here today without her contribution.
But she can't hold a candle to Mike in softball knowledge. Nobody in this country can, IMO.
If you look at the names of the 8 teams that made the WCWS in Yvette's 20 years versus the 15 years of Mike/Stephni, only Arizona and UCLA have been mainstays. Not only has the game changed, but the teams who remain in the annual hunt have changed too..
Sam admits in recent interviews that she hasn't been seeing the ball well and made some adjustments before the home run. Couldn't be happier for her.
As for discussing the performance of student athletes, I will be interested to see what standard Express applies during football season.
